Reign of turkey terror is over in Roslindale

Brittney Moon reports that the terror tom who had been going after students, teachers and parents for two weeks at the Haley School in Roslindale has a new home this morning: the Myles Standish Forest in Plymouth. Moon says that a sergeant from state Environmental Police managed to capture the angry walking party platter for transport way down the coast, far away from American Legion Highway.

BTW this article is about the topic in general not just "big cats".

However, those who cannot or will not find a local solution to their wildlife concerns must still accept that relocating a wild animal and destroying a wild animal may well be synonymous endeavors.

I appreciate the comedy, but I can find little evidence that wild turkeys have hurt a person. And just to separate the wheat from the chaff, scaring children is not an injury. After several different search approaches, I found that searching "police shot wild turkey" brought a result, but no evidence of any injury from a turkey.

Please read the vineyard gazette story, it's hilarious.

In a interesting aside, "pecked by a turkey" is a billable medical record code. It would seem that if it exists in medical records, then I should be able to find a credible report of such an incident, but I can't.

And guess what, the Journal of Integrated Pest Management actually published a literature review on the subject of real and perceived turkey damage. https://academic.oup.com/jipm/article/4/1/A1/820062

It is a law of nature you humans overlook, that intellectual versatility is the compensation for change, danger, and trouble. A turkey is perfectly in harmony with its environment and is a perfect mechanism. Nature never appeals to intelligence until habit and instinct are useless. There is no intelligence where there is no change and no need of change. Only those animals partake of intelligence that have a huge variety of needs and dangers.

Our brave freedom fighter will improvise, adapt, and overcome all foes which bring their quarrel to him no matter where he may be in the farthest flung realms of Greater Brookline. Irony of ironies that our brave warrior would be relocated to Plymouth, the site of our first quarrel with Imperialist invaders. One day our chicks will gobble the ballads of this brave warrior's odyssey and reconquista!

Humans are predators and play a big role in limlting wild animal over population. The turkey over population needs a cull.

Maybe if we air drop condoms the turkeys will take the hint.

This story is about an elementary school. I think it would be great if we could harvest these turkeys, but not in front of 8 year olds. Waste is the biggest sin.
