DA: Drunken Cambridge man who hates Democrats bought ammo at gun show after threatening mass shooting

Schwarztrauber

A Cambridge man without a gun license bought 150 rounds of ammunition at a Wilmington gun show and threatened to "use a firearm and ammunition to allegedly conduct a shooting spree," the Middlesex County District Attorney's office reports.

WBZ reports Brian Schwarztrauber, 54, has long ranted about the Democratic Party and quoted DA Marian Ryan as saying that the current charges of illegal possession of ammunition "really don’t reflect the dangerousness of this situation."

The dealer at the Northeast Gun Show who alleged sold Schwarztrauber ammunition was also charged, for selling it to somebody without a gun license, the DA's office reports.

According to prosecutors, Wilmington police were initially called to the Northeast Gun Show because Schwarztrauber was being disruptive; they initially put him in protective custody because he was really drunk.

But then Cambridge Police called and said they were looking for him because of "statements allegedly made by the defendant indicating that he was going to use a firearm and ammunition to allegedly conduct a shooting spree," the DA's office says.

Armed with a search warrant, Cambridge Police found more rounds of ammunition in his Cambridge home, and charged him with illegal possession of ammunition as well. A Cambridge District Court judge set his bail on that charge at $25,000; he has yet to be arraigned on the Wilmington charge.

The DA's office adds:

Police located the vendor, identified as Stephen Fowler, 69 of Guilford, Connecticut, on March 2 and charged him after an investigation into the sale of the ammunition on March 3. Fowler was charged with selling ammunition without complying with the requirements relating to Firearms Identifications Cards.

Innocent, etc.

Note to self: don't buy anything at those gun shows. God knows where it's been.

Why are there gun shows? I mean, ones where sales are conducted? I understand setting up a target range and showing off your wares but these things just seem to be a flea market for mayhem.

Can't see why people can't just locate things they want through the internet and then pick them up in person at a licensed dealer.

Every table at gun shows in MA are licensed dealers.

They're conducting illegal sales?

Ain't just guns. All sorts of accessories and tools from small vendors. Stuff you might want to try out in person first.

Not legal to sell ammunition or anything that counts as a firearm to anyone without an LTC or FID at those shows in Massachusetts so...already against the law.

Gun owners buy all sorts of accessories. Erectile dysfunction pills. XXXXL sized sweatpants. The KKK newsletter. #micropenislivesmatter bumper stickers. The Idiots Guide To Mouth Breathing. Trump University Diplomas.

pretty closed minded generalization of an entire demographic of people.

It’s what Kinopio does best. Because it is easier to paint people with broad brushes than to learn new things.

Fairly accurate assessment. Honestly, it seems like a lot of random junk, and everything is fairly overpriced. I thought these shows were supposed to be all about getting good deals. If you are into CMP or older military stuff, there's a lot of that.

The problem is that the laws here are pretty convoluted and most online vendors refuse to sell to MA residents. It's a pretty good way to see a wide variety of stuff you wouldn't necessarily find at your local shop. There are also accessories (and good jerky). The vendor and the lovely person mentioned in the article were in the wrong and both clearly broke the law. They also aren't indicative of my experiences. I've personally purchased a firearm and ammunition at the Wilmington show and had to show my LTC for the ammo and did a full background check for the gun, which is SOP.

You know: “You can just go to a gunshow and buy any kind of gun you want!”

And found out that, well, no. You need an LTC/FID card. And then you have to pass the onsite background check. Oopsies. So much for the GUNSHOW LOOPHOLE.

And failing that settled for an out of state nitwit who would break MA law and sell him ammo, illegally. I hope they slam that clown just as hard.

He bought ammo illegally, then got drunk and threw a nice Nazi trumpertantrum. Only then was he stopped.

You need to learn to read.

The onliest thing he could buy at the gun show was ammo, under the table and illegally, from one out of state fuckwit.

Because despite what they tell you at the Globe and WGBH, the basic laws of the Commonwealth (LTC, bakground check) apply to gun shows. And because of other vendors following those laws he was unable to buy anything to put his illegal bullets in. Like a gun.

Guns purchased in lax states are being used in shootings in massachusetts.

not so in other states.
BTW he had the ammunition in his car when he got popped for being drunk and disorderly.
so yes there was at least one illegal sale at that gin show., could have been more we don't know.

Illegal possession of ammo and the guy/vendor got arrested. Good outcome.

It will be interesting to see how much attention this gets vs. the daily illegal possession stories that Adam posts from Roxbury, Dorchester, etc. - where almost nobody comments. Guess it's cause it's not people that "hate democrats".

I think the most newsworthy part of this story is that there is a man who lives in Cambridge who isn't a Democrat. Shocking. Congrats for finding the one guy.

The guy, according to authorities, was drunk and out of control. Had he not been drunk, and had he been quiet, he would've gotten away - the ammo, it turns out, was in his car when he was put in protective custody.

This seriously makes me concerned about the seller. Not only did he illegally sell the ammo, he did so to a belligerently drunk person.

which is not what happens every day when kids get caught with guns on our city streets. For reform to happen, all individuals who break the law should have the fucking hammer dropped on them.

start doling out 10+ year sentences for illegal firearm sentences sand things would change real quick.

Daily stories? Like the daily stories of gun owning republicans who do or plan to go on killing sprees? The FBI will tell you that white, christian conservatives are the most likely to be terrorists in the US.

Shocking...another angry white man. The person that sold him the rounds should get their license to sell and maybe even carry revoked forever b/c you know this wasn't their first time.

Is this guy one of the millions of Bernie Sanders supporters angry at the Democrat party for rigging the nomination for Hillary? Violence is never the answer but who could blame them for being upset?

This guy has been living in those bastions of socialism Cambridge and Somerville, blogging about the live music scene there, active in community boating, no political donations on OCPF or FEC and so enthusiastic about guns that he couldn't bother getting a basic FID card that is essentially obtained by right. Hardly a conservative. Although not quite as obvious as the Jussie Smollet or Tynan School cases, it is equally laughable without being placed in proper context.

I know it was long ago, but I wonder how loud the SNAP was at the moment when FOX, Rush, etc. finally broke your brain for good.

None of those angry Bernie Bros or Hillary supporters have committed a mass shooting. unlike some other supporters angry because, well i don't know why?

He’s conservative. Well known in the sailing community in Boston. He is a trump voter too. But I have to say, I don’t think anyone who knew him saw this coming.
