By adamg on Tue, 03/19/2019 - 8:07am
You can now order a birth certificate for somebody born in Boston after 1870 online for $14 plus a credit-card processing fee. The new service comes a year after the city began offering online ordering of death certificates.

Nice work
The city has quietly done a really nice job in the last couple years upgrading their website and online capabilities. They had been in the Stone Age for a long time that predates Walsh. They're finally getting all this basic stuff online to avoid a trip to City Hall for people. Nice work.
Fee free Birth Certificate.
A fee free Birth Certificate can be made available for less enfranchised folks, homeless folks, folks living on the street, Veterans, aging folks. A Birth Certificate is required for Mass ID and for other identification required, for example to open a bank account. There are folks in our communities for whom the fee is a barrier to getting identification.
No ID on the track
THIS, THIS, THIS.
There are some social service agencies that provide vouchers to cover birth certificate fees & ID card costs.
I'll post the links when I compile them.
I wonder what's the status of the City's plan to offer municipal ID cards?
I’ve read countless “theszak”
I’ve read countless “theszak” comments on UHub and i think this is the first I find logical and completely agree with
Good for you, Max
*Nancy Pelosi condescending clap & wink*
Well, some people can
If the person's parents weren't married when they were born, the birth certificate is restricted.
And if the person was adopted, they can only access the falsified birth certificate stating people gave birth to them who didn't.

Pertaining to Boston vital statistics records
All you need is an ID and 12 bucks for in-person birth certificate requests.
... unless that has changed.
Not for everyone
People looking for a birth certification of a relative with unmarried parents or a person who was adopted cannot do this.

Just to clarify
A Boston resident requesting a copy of their own birth certificate just need a valid ID and 12 bucks (when visiting the Registry Department at City Hall in-person).
Are you a bot?
If they were adopted before age 18 and were and born between July 17, 1974 and December 31, 2007, they can't get their birth certificate.
I'm not a bot
And I was not referring to adopted Boston residents seeking birth certificate copies.
But take a gander at the posts I've commented on this site. They tend to get a lot of engagements/comments.
Being mistaken for a bot remains one of my greatest achievements though. I'm rather emotionless IRL.

I’m sure
This won’t be abused.
