Woman made up story about being attacked by a black man in a Quincy park, police say

Quincy Police report they've charged a woman with filing a false police report after, they say, she admitted making up a story about being thrown to the ground and robbed by a bald black man in a hoodie in Russell Park on March 25.

As part of a thorough investigation, detectives reviewed surveillance in the area of the crime scene. When Detective Eddy re-interviewed the alleged victim, she confessed that she had made a false report.

the harshest of municipal, state, and federal charges for filing a false report and endangering the safety of others.

Set an example, practice your wind up, and throw the book at her!

Completely agree she is an awful person for this and should be fully prosecuted.

I'm just not sure about the part where you said she put other people in danger, care to elaborate on that?

Auto accidents involving a police cruiser heading to the alleged crime scene.
Police officers getting hurt while investigating alleged crime.
Person of color getting falsely arrested for committing alleged crime.
And that’s just off the top of my head.

I immediately was thinking of the Charles Stuart murder case in Boston in 1989. From accounts that I have heard from that time, Boston was an expressly dangerous place for Black residents during that the city-wide manhunt.

Turns out that Charles Stuart killed Charles Stuart's wife, not the imaginary tall Black man with a raspy voice that Stuart lied about.

‘A 6-FOOT BLACK MAN ABOUT 30 YEARS OLD’

More than 100 additional officers were assigned to scour Mission Hill, Roxbury, and Mattapan, searching for anyone who fit the vague description Stuart gave of his attacker. He was black. He had a raspy voice. He was wearing a black sweatsuit with red stripes. He had tried to rob the couple, but then said “You’re 5-0,’’ to Stuart and started firing, apparently convinced Charles was a cop.

And of course, there's the case of Carolyn Bryant Donham whose false accusations led to the murder of Emmett Till.

But all these years later, a historian says that the woman has broken her silence, and acknowledged that the most incendiary parts of the story she and others told about Emmett — claims that seem tame today but were more than enough to get a black person killed in Jim Crow-era Mississippi — were false.

The woman, Carolyn Bryant Donham, spoke to Timothy B. Tyson, a Duke University professor — possibly the only interview she has given to a historian or journalist since shortly after the episode — who has written a book, “The Blood of Emmett Till,” to be published next week.

In it, he wrote that she said of her long-ago allegations that Emmett grabbed her and was menacing and sexually crude toward her, “that part is not true.”

Those are just two examples but there are plenty more.

As an African American I certainly appreciate all your clear example of a white person falsely accusing and African American. However I believe these false accusations are Universal and many races including African-Americans for example Tawana Bradley I think the last name was and New York City.

However the most changing example you gave that has change my way of viewing life and it's whole,
is never judge until you have all the facts. Charles fooled me.
Charles Stewart, law enforcement, prosecution, and any others who were fooled by your lies and violated an entire African American community and more.
I will never forget and a lesson that I learned early as a young adult living in Boston.

It says a lot that you need this person to elaborate. It always open season on black men so there is no need for a white damsel to give them license to do whatever.

Racism is evil and there should be consequences to misleading the police. But they should be careful about what those consequences should be.

I've always wanted to see a study of how much money it costs the public when false reports are filed with police departments. Framing social ills like this in terms of costs seems to really get people to look at the issue differently.

Like, how much money did it cost Boston to follow up on Charles Stuart's tip that an imaginary tall, raspy-voiced Black man attacked him and his wife.

I have heard, for example, that for the Boston Fire Department to initiate a rescue of an emotional distressed person who is threatening to jump off a bridge or a roof...it's something like at least $250,000?

And just to make it clear: I am not conflating suicidal ideation with filing a false police report.

This Quincy broad already brought about the "consequences" that followed her CHOICE to file this false police report.

in part...because I don't want this discussion (which is pretty civil) to turn into something less civil.

In an ideal world, prosecuting FALSE REPORTS/STATEMENTS made to LAW ENFORCEMENT would have no effect on "real" victims who report sexual assault to the police. But that's an ideal world.

And it is really important to not conflate/confuse this Quincy, Mass.-woman CHOOSING to provide FALSE STATEMENTS to the police with victims seeking legitimate recourse by reporting sexual assaults to law enforcement.

What I'm talking about is false police reports/statements given to police that falsely accuse marginalized folks of serious crime and consequently endanger the safety of others...a/k/a this story from Quincy, MA.

If you read the article about the kind of cases where the police file charges for filing a false report, you might feel differently. But I can't force you to look at more information.

These fake crime reports are getting out of hand, some prison time might smarten these people up to the seriousness of their actions.

I doubt she will get the same deal Smollett received because it doesn't seem like she is as connected and rich as he is.

And well...Quincy, MA is not Chicago, IL.

Or did she just totally make up a story about being attacked? Maybe she was inspired by Jussie.

I get it: you have a raging boner to discredit women but...could you be a little more clear about what you're referring to?

Also, it's spelled "probably."

Probably is clearly a typo. You’re implying i’m stupid, but whatever.
