Woman arrested in cemetery with red liquid charged with defacing memorials there last month

Deborah Gideon, 53, who was arrested yesterday at Mount Hope Cemetery on the Mattapan/Roslindale line, was arraigned today on eight counts of vandalizing a memorial for an incident at the cemetery last month in which somebody poured an oily substance on eight markers, including one memorial to fallen police officers, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Gideon, a Hyde Park resident, was ordered to undergo a 20-day mental-health evaluation, the DA's office reports, adding her next court appearance, scheduled for May 8, will include arguments on possible bail for her.

Still ongoing are investigations into who poured a red liquid on statues at churches in Hyde Park and Dorchester having a red liquid poured on them and who poured some sort of oily substance on a memorial to World War II veterans at Castle Island.

Innocent, etc.

Per news reports, the court clinician stated that "her rational understanding may be impaired."

Someone who may have acted due to previously-undiagnosed psychosis really doesn't deserve the name calling. Knock it off, OK?

I agree, the woman is more to be pitied than scorned

Please tell me they took her license away. Especially since she used her vehicle to commit these crimes.

This is what you are concerned with? You truly have a disturbed mind.

Also, you know that walking was also involved in these crimes, right?

And after we cut up her license let's just proceed to stone her to death. Screw due process. Amirite kornholio?

Screw due process.

Wanton and malicious destruction is one of those crimes that are on the do-not-prosecute list.

In the exceptional circumstances where prosecution of one of these charges is warranted, the line DA must first seek permission from his or her supervisor. If necessary, arraignment will be continued to allow for consultation with supervisor. Thus, there will be an avenue for prosecuting these misdemeanors when necessary but it will be appropriately overseen by experienced prosecutors.

In the exceptional circumstances where prosecution of one of these charges is warranted

A Google search of "exceptional circumstances" noted by the Suffolk County DA returns one result - gang violence and witness intimidation.

Orwellian law is suck law.

So it wouldn't matter anyway.

It's Easter -- So -- Let's forgive her transgressions

However she clearly needs what today we would call a "Structured Environment" -- in the past we would just dump her in the "Loony Bin"

I'm feeling a bit retro this Easter -- Forgive her and gently place her in the "Loony Bin"

To keep her idle hands occupied -- under supervision let her clean-up her chefs-d'œuvre
