Three from Somerville charged with Harvard Square shooting

Police in Cambridge and Somerville today announced three arrests for a shooting in Harvard Square early Sunday that sent a local man to the hospital.

David Pleitez, 18, Joao Bonicenha, 19, Somerville, and a 16-year-old too young to be named were charged with the shooting at JFK and Eliot streets that followed fights between two groups of men in the area around the Eliot Street garage, police say. The victim's injuries were not life threatening, police say.

Individuals involved in the altercations were identified by the Cambridge and Somerville Police after the Cambridge Police were able to obtain, review and circulate surveillance images with local law enforcement partners. After positively identifying the suspects from Sunday morning’s shooting, arrest warrants were secured. Pleitez, Bonicenha and the 16-year-old were taken into custody early this morning at their Somerville residences. A vehicle involved with the shooting was identified and also taken into custody at one of the residences.

Pleitez and the 16-year-old face a variety of charges, including attempted murder, illegal possession of a firearm, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building. Bonicenha faces charges of attempted murder and being an accessory after the fact, police say.

Police add they are continuing to investigate both the shooting and gunfire in Central Square on Monday.

Innocent, etc.

24/7 highway police roadblocks where you must present positive biometric identification and submit to an iris scan. Regular social media banning of anyone who says something someone else disagrees with or finds offensive and triggering. Yeah... Yeah, that's it! That's the ticket!

I have yet to see any downside to the proliferation of street-facing cameras. Would I want Donald Trump running a Big Brother network of cameras? No. However, I maintain that the only people who need to worry about cameras in public places are people who have something to hide.

People who have nothing to hide, have nothing to worry about.

People think that human beings naturally yearn for civil liberties. They don’t. The concepts don’t have the traction around the world that some believe. Talk with a Chinese Bro that lives in China. He knows the government is beyond reproach and censors Internet Posting, among other things, but he is pretty much okay with it and will be like, “yeah, I know, but whatever, we’re going to be managing your economy in 10 years, haha.”

Yeah. OK. An authoritarian, fascist/communist hybred government. OK bro. Whatever. LOLZ

This is one of the few situations when I'm glad there were cameras.

But does it outweigh all the situations I disapprove of? That's a complicated question.
