Thar she falls!

Construction contractor Consigli posted drone video of today's fall of the Chelsea Soldiers Home water tower, part of the work to build a new, $200-million, 154-bed long-term care facility for veterans:

The current, 134-bed Chelsea Soldiers Home will remain open as the new facility is built.

Interesting, but surprisingly anti-climactic.

it would have been way cooler if it had exploded.

Ya know, for vets who actually live at the Soldiers Home?

Yeah, some of whom might have PTSD and probably all of whom had friends or unitmates who were killed in action.

i wasn't trying to scare veterans with PTSD, i was commenting on a huge water tower falling to the ground in slow motion. sometimes people make light of things. killed in action? jesus dude.

memorial day is for soldiers who have died, not for those currently living.

the holiday for all veterans is that one that is conveniently named "veteran's day"

A new gleaming long term care facility sitting next to a rotting vet residential complex. No funds for a complete Chelsea rehab, just half. Great job Baker

Unfortunately the old soldiers home and the new construction s FEDERAL money, not anything to do with Gov. Baker.

If Baker wanted to he could have developed a more even plan for the Chelsea complex. Instead his healthcare cronies will dive into a top flight hospital project while the rest of the home crumbles. Vets will get top notch (expensive) service and then go back to their rooms and get bitten by rats all night.

Aww. For many of us that 'landmark' has been around as long as we have. Having a friend whose Dad was a patient, I understand the need for improvements and I sure hope the veterans get the best.

It's just another noticeable thing that we've had all our lives that is gone.

I was expecting more crunch and collapse... in a way it would have been easier if it had caved in itself but looking at it laying on its side , almost fully intact, is so sad to see. If it had collapsed or caved in and was not so recognizable after the fact then it would be easier to really find closure.

I do look forward to the new facility and think our veterans deserve the best we can give them.

There is now a new Chelsea division. There are the pre-Tobin and post-Tobin Chelsea people, the pre-fire and post-fire people, The pre-receivership people and the post-receivership people and now we have pre-water tank and post-water tank. I pick those divisions because the side of the line you enter the city in changes your perception of what Chelsea is. Literally starting today there will be new people moving into apartments or homes for June who may not have ever known the water tower existed. They will be perplexed about this landmark everyone points to and talks about, that is not there. Even now I can see the division among people that I know with the longer term residents being more devastated than newer residents.
