Shirtless man charged with stabbing supermarket worker who told him he needed a shirt; police say he and pal then attacked three who came to victim's defense

Boston Police didn't have to go far to arrest two men charged with attacking people at the Stop & Shop on Truman Parkway in Hyde Park yesterday: Before they could speed out of the parking lot, officers arrived and blocked the exit - and witnesses started pointing at the car.

Police report arresting Gerson Moreno, 21, of Dorchester, and Elton Barbosa, 26, of Hyde Park, on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery for the attacks shortly before 7 p.m. yesterday, which left one store worker with stab wounds - not considered life threatening - and which left two other people punched and a third with a slice wound from a knife.

The incident started around 6:55 p.m. in aisle 4 - chips, pretzels, candy, gum, popcorn and other snacks - when one of the two, police did not say which, rejected the worker's request to either put on a shirt or leave.

"On arrival, several parties on scene directed the officer’s attention to a suspect vehicle which was preparing to leave the parking lot," police say. "Officers immediately stopped the vehicle" and removed its occupants, while still more officers went into the store, where they found the victims. The stabbed victim was taken to a local hospital; the others declined medical attention.

Innocent, etc.

When he was told that he needed a shirt, he picked one out to match his surfer jams and put it on his tab.

If the guy had friends with him, he could have left ... or just bought a damn shirt!

Any chance we could get a little more specificity in your headlines? I find them somewhat lacking.

Thanks!

A brilliant instructor of mine at Dartmouth out of Wake Forest had an aversion to shoes so he cut the bottoms out of a pair of Converse All-Stars (where are you now Bill Shanahan?) and could waltz on in to any restaurant in town. Confrontation avoided. Subversive? Sure. Antisocial, sneaky and disrespectful of the social contract? Perhaps. But who were we to say his feet carried more bacteria than the soles of the shoes we wore on the same street and never once had washed? Why do I tell this story here? I’ve seen painted-on shirts that passed muster at dance clubs back in the techno days. If you really must defy this social norm, get creative, paint one on, and most importantly, get some anger management help. That is all.
