Bloody 12 hours around Franklin Field and Harambee Park: Four separate shootings, one in a shootout in front of police, one dead

Murder victim identified as Jared Brown, 24, of Mattapan.

Boston Police report a man was fatally shot around 3:40 a.m. at 91 Westview St. in Franklin Field.

That shooting came about 4 1/2 hours after another man was shot in the leg off Ames Street.

Not long after the fatal shooting, a third man was shot at 868 Blue Hill Ave., near Talbot Street, WCVB reports.

Around 8:30 a.m., police report, Atunbi Bryan, 27, of Brockton and Michael Warner, 34, of Hyde Park, started shooting at another man across Talbot Avenue, in front of the Boys and Girls Club - and in front of police officers there for today's J'ouvert parade, a short distance from the Blue Hill Avenue shooting. According to police:

While in plain view of the officers, Warner produced a firearm and began to shoot across the street at Bryan who in turn also produced a firearm and began to shoot back at Warner. The two suspects then simultaneously turned in opposite directions and fled on foot. Officers immediately pursued the fleeing suspects, arresting Warner about one hundred yards away at which time they recovered a .32 caliber Smith & Wesson CTG revolver which he had discarded on the ground as he fled. It was later determined that the weapon contained six spent shell casings. Officers were able to arrest Bryan just a short distance away from the crime scene at which time they discovered that he had been injured during the exchange of gunfire. Officers then recovered a loaded .380 caliber Glock 42 handgun which the suspect had thrown onto a nearby pool rooftop. Bryan was transported by EMS while in police custody to an area hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Both were charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.

Separately, Boston Police report arresting a Hyde Park man they say was packing a loaded gun while driving near Franklin Field on Friday afternoon.

Police say gang-unit officer spotted a driver fail to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk around 5:35 p.m. at Blue Hill Avenue and Callender Street:

Officers activated their emergency equipment and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The operator refused to stop his vehicle. Officers eventually were able to stop the vehicle at the intersection of Blue Hill Ave and Brookview Street. As officers approached the vehicle, the operator was instructed to exit the vehicle, to which he refused. Officers removed the operator from the vehicle and placed him under arrest following a brief but violent struggle. While attempting to place the suspect in handcuffs, officers observed a firearm protruding from the suspect’s pocket. Officers secured the firearm which was later determined to be a Titan .25 caliber firearm loaded with seven rounds of live ammunition.

Jordan Evans, 26, was charged with unlawfully carrying a loaded firearm, second offense, unlawful possession of a firearm, second offense, firearm violation with prior violent/drug crime conviction, unlawful possess of ammunition and failure to stop for police.

In 2015, Evans was arrested on gun charges on Harold Street in Roxbury.

When I click on the headline, I see two more paragraphs (with the other two shootings) than I see on the UHub main page.

One of these days, I need to just automate that so I don't have to keep remembering to do it by hand.

I live more than a mile away and the music was so loud I got out of bed at 4:15am and walked up Talbot Avenue to see what was going on - this was after I called the Dorchester BPD office and was literally told "to get over it - you live in a city". Police were diverting traffic, people were wearing masks, pot smoke everywhere and some woman on Talbot Avenue going nuts yelling "now we all know!" over and over and beating on parked cards. Police told me 3 people were shot. I walked home and the music still was blasting as the carnage continued at 4:45am.

Welcome to Boston. This needs to stop.

These parades and festivals are ridiculously obnoxious. The Dominican parade is literally the loudest thing I've ever heard. What is the point? To piss people off? It's not like they can have a conversation with music that loud.

We need to hold the Boston City Tourism, Sports and Entertainment accountable to this. There number is 617-635-3911 / [email protected]

Do you want to get rid of all of them? Or just those belonging to ethnic groups that you don't like or understand?

That beat music until 5am and shoot people. Does that answer your question Ron Newman that probably lives in Newton?

Somerville. Where we also have lots of loud parades and events.

So not Boston Ron. Get off my lawn.

It's called Honk. It happens every October. I volunteer for it. Our event includes at least one, and possibly two, Haitian RaRa bands that are also part of the Caribbean carnival.

A once a year festival in October. Try repeating the Honk festival several times, with stadium sized speakers, blasting from the Franklin Park at 1, 2, 3 AM or later throughout the summer.

Add the noise from gangbangers shooting in the area, from boom boom cars fitted with 24" speakers designed to be heard in houses.

Now one could argue that maybe the only people are those who like a lot of noise. In that case say bye bye to any degree of quality of life. Actually, say good bye to the vast majority of people, regardless of culture, who actually believe that peace and quiet are valuable neighborhood qualities.

At 5am?

As a gay man I would never expect it to be okay with a gay pride block party going on until 5am. Nor would I expect a permit to be given to the organizers of such parade with shootings every year. How about we agree with a permit that ends at 10pm? We all live in a city that needs to share its space. How hell on earth this was allowed is just beyond me and someone needs to be held accountable.

Kinopio hates poorer, working class people from the outer neighborhoods, regardless of race.

Nope, sorry. I hate loud assholes regardless of income or race. I'd say the same about white trash on obnoxious Harley Davidsons. I'd say the same about scum bag rich assholes in a helicopter.

Why is it unreasonable to expect to live in an Urban environment where people across the spectrum are respectful of others. There are laws in the city of Boston that regulate the decibel level after 11pm. This celebration was well over that limit. All residents need to be respectful and abide by the rules. That is what it means to live in a civilized society. Mutual consideration and respect. Instead of writing inflammatory and snarky responses, we should be holding out city officials and police accountable, it's obvious there is pandering involved otherwise appropriate action would have been taken.

They’ve already turn down the clock on these festivals soo much over the past decade to appease the yuppies. Back off.

Folks who want boom-boom cars and thumpy thumpy that blasts blocks away should join the circus. But circus performers would kick them out because they - like a lot of other folks - work hard and so need a reasonable amount of peace and quiet.

Would you like speakers blasting at your home at 5:00 AM? No? Oh, so you believe it's okay when another person is subjected to violent noise?

up

Now you've jumped from hating cars and drivers to hating parades and festivals. Is there anything you do not hate? You might not be cut out for city living. Perhaps a shack in the deep woods of Maine would be more to your liking.

I also never blame victims. Perhaps you’ve got me confused with someone else.

A poor lady in Hyde Square voiced her concern on a local listserve over the rattling of her window sills two blocks away from the Dominican festival and got bullied by throngs of fake supporters who told her to suck it up. It’s not right. When buildings shake and bass pounds, how is that fun for anyone? It continues to put Dominicans in a certain class that they would benefit coming out of to climb the socioeconomic ladder in the US. Some parts of past culture have to blend with where they live now, I don’t care what country you’re from. You live here now. In any case, I was too intimidated by the bullies to support my neighbor in Hyde Square.

She was pummeled by the psuedo-progressives of JP who jump on every opportunity to attack online anyone who does walk lock step with the mob. That is why I quit the JP Facebook groups. They are largely run by the JP residents who who think they know everything. A failure of many young adults, from the owner of a local shop to the self-important college teachers who will lecture you about censoring, saying they don't censor, after they censor you.

I’ve been here 14 years and feel like I don’t like or relate to my neighbors anymore. Either I’m getting older and more conservative or crotchety, or this would be the case anywhere (I.e., whole country having the same dialogues we are having). It is interesting but also saddening to have my social circle getting smaller by self-selection. The Swirlygirls and Ron Newmans are just annoying.

A pooraggressively uninformed lady in Hyde Square voiced her concern on a local listserve over the rattling of her window sills two blocks away from the Dominican festival and got bulliedtaken to task for her dog-whistle racism by throngs ofhalf a dozen fake supportersneighbors who told her to suck it up.that she lives in a city, and has no expectation of idyllic serenity at 11 AM on a Saturday

That NextDoor thread was an historic trainwreck, which plenty of people ought to be ashamed about their continued participation in, but don't try to peddle your "this poor lady was just voicing her OPINION, and she got BULLIED FOR IT" crap as a proxy argument on a separate forum, anon. Your militant ignorance of critical race theory aside, if you want to go yell about this on the Interwebs, go do it in the original cesspool, under your real name with the rest of them.

Cool it, buddy. The woman just was reaching out on a platform after attempts to get recourse from the city's 311 service didn't work. Everyone knows the parades and festivals are unreasonably loud and getting louder each year with the advancement in stereo bass tech. They're not trying to stop the parade or anyone's good time just asking to turn it down from a dinosaur yelling into a megaphone to a dull roar. "move out" is a juvenile response. Grow up.

Ron from Newton - I'm not feeling joyful this morning. I've been up all night with loud noise and shootings from your beautifully painting memory of the carnage up my street.

We all need to be on that permit process and hold everyone accountable.

Lots of complaints from West Roxbury, Roslindale and Hyde Park overnight. I suspect the wind direction had something to do with that - when the conditions are right, sounds can carry really far (like we were able to hear some fireworks from the harbor and, I think, Somerville down here in Roslindale this summer).

But you know for a fact the Franklin Field violence had to do with the festival?

I used to live on Nightingale Street in the early 2000s. I enjoy the life and noise in an otherwise depressed part of the city that has few entertainment outlets. In a real world class city there is occasionally fun and rebelling into the night-its common all over the world. Travel some. Live a little.

In this portion of the real world quality of life, including peace and quiet are valued.

Rebellion is done by one of two groups: those with legitimate complaints and those who are just immature adolescents in their 20s and 30s, who are still living out their adolescent rebellion.

Thats my point. I'm not a racist. It went on until 5am - people near buy shot and I personally witnessed total chaos up and down Talbot Ave - all the while given a permit for this. How much money was spent on this police wise, family wise that lost loved ones? This has to stop.

The officer was right. You’re trying to gentrify an area that doesn’t want to be gentrified.

It’s been that way since the late 1960s.

You chose to move to the hood. From the sounds of things you haven't lived there long. It's an annual street festival. It's been happening long before you got there long after. If you can't take it go on a mini vacation carnival weekend.

New York does it. Miami Does it. Toronto Does it. All on a much much greater scale than Boston does. You Chose to live in a city. One weekend a year our community parties in the street and embraces our culture in our neighborhood. If you don't like it, MOVE! This event has been taking place long before you, and hopefully it's still around when you leave.

Gentrifier who has the audacity to call someone a snowflake? Are you serious dude?

Obviously they were not getting enough air to their brain to act with maturity. Cops who say get over deserve to have their thin blue uniform ripped off to undies and then paraded through the street showing off their skid marks.

I called the police at 425am, The music ieas very loud in west rox. They are back at it right now I can hear same noise. Police have failed the citizens of Boston this weekend and someone need to answer for this.

I called the police again tonight about the music blasting from Dorchester into Roslindale, Hyde Park and West Rox. Called on Saturday at 2am and the office of the noise/party line said without tow intersecting cross streets, she could not send over a patrol car to investigate. She did admit they had been receiving numerous calls about the post- carnival noise and parties. Not as loud as Friday which kept our family up until 5am.
Three nights of this crap. Doesn't feel like a cultural celebration.

No whining, complaining, or crying from you since the weekend came to a close?? Well ding dong the witch must be dead! Perhaps planning a family vacation for the end of August 2020 and each year thereafter would alleviate your issue! Highly unlikely but sounds good in theory.
Oh well, I guess we'll hear from you in 51 weeks with the same complaints.
