Citizen complaint of the day: The flues spreading through JP

A concerned citizen filed a 311 report about these two chimney flues that appeared at the intersection of McBride and Call streets in Jamaica Plain.

They are venting whatever causes manhole covers to explode. JP residents should be grateful.
Gas line
Look at the metal cover on the ground between them. That's a pressure step-down regulator for natural gas in the neighborhood. There's normally a hissing sound audible from the cover.
The chimneys are part of the venting system. It's really not a concern, unlike the thousands of miles of old pipes and leaky joints leaching gas all around the city.

Google Maps shows those there in July 2018. Not sure why this is an issue.

That sidewalk is getting
That sidewalk is getting pretty cluttered. The city should put some of that stuff, like the sign, in the street where the parking space is so its easier for people, especially those in wheelchairs and with strollers, to get by.

Air Vents for Underground Gas District Regulator Vaults
Underground, confined manhole vaults such as this, are required to have sufficient ventilation by OSHA for worker safety. This district regulator station is just like the one in Merrimack Valley that overpressurized 3 towns due to Columbia Gas errors.

The Columbia Gas explosions happened because an employee bypassed the regulators, not because of them.

It has been near 48 hours now since I got that smooth rhythm in my head and it shows no sign of letting up.

Ample plant life around the chimneys
It's great to see the lush, ample plant life around the chimneys, even after a hard frost. More proof that C02 is helpful not harmful.

Fishy - you have no idea of what you are talking about. To give you tad of respect: In response I can tell you that I am closely familiar with each each corner of this area. Not one is more arboreal than another. But only one - this one, has these vents. In other words the presence of these vents has absolutely not impact upon the arboreal growth of this or any other coner in the area. Therefore your attempt to use this to prove that unhealthy levels of CO2 actually healthy fails.
What intrigues me is why you chose in to chime where you are utterly ignorant. This gets to the core of Trumpers. Folks who threw out the window the ancient wisdoms summed in ideas such as not talking about things that you know nothing about.
