That's a lot of kids

A lot of kids in black and white in old Boston

The folks at the Boston City Archives wonder if you can place this scene. See it larger.

...barely visible is Mayor John Collins. Wheelchair-bound, only his head pokes up in the crowd.

I don't give the industry much thought, but it occurs to me that playground designers have made big strides. "You got 300 kids? A single slide should cover you. If you have extra space leftover, we're having a sale on asphalt."

It looks warm in that photo. Way to rub it in.

This looks like the Ryan Playground. It’s at the corner of Dot Ave. and Harbor View St.

Thanks for playing, folks! Those of you who guessed Ryan Playground are correct. The photo was taken on June 16, 1961, around the time the playground was dedicated. At the time it was called the Dorchester Ave Playground. You can zoom in on a high resolution image here:https://cityofboston.access.preservica.com/uncategorized/IO_96429958-e8f...

Definitely mid-60's.....

Yes, that's Mayor Collins and I think state rep Davenport to his left.

I'm guessing Murphy Field's playground between Child St. & Carolina Ave.? (My aunt lived nearby.)

I don't know if it was called the Murphy back then.

These old pictures are great. I love scanning the faces for a family member. I'm sure one day one will pop up.
