Remember when the Boston Herald was based in the city it's named for?

Dan Kennedy reports the Boston Herald has apparently moved out of its Braintree offices and is now sharing space with the Lowell Sun - in Lowell. The former Herald offices in Braintree are now being used by a religious substance-abuse organization. As at many other papers, staffers have mostly been working remotely of late anyway.

The whole Globe can't be
The whole Globe can't be bothered to deliver to Boston because the western burbs are more important phase kinda made it clear that despite their swanky office space the Globe could care less about Boston.
The newspapers killed themselves by refusing to focus on local news in favor of printing puff PR bits for the wealthy, serving up political activism for their friends, and regurgitating prepackaged stories from wire services.
The bloody Daily Mail has better coverage of news stories in Boston and they are a cut-rate UK fish wrap.

I realize this is just anecdata, but we still get the Sunday Globe and it shows up on our Boston porch pretty reliably every Sunday.

My Uncle gets the Globe delivered everyday to the Mattapan/Dorchester line. Granted it's carried by a private contractor and not one of those big Globe trucks.

Home delivery has been by "private contractor" for decades, if not longer. Back in the mid 1980s I was a "private contractor" for about a month. Couldn't take the early wake up, but I was ready for school in good time. That said, I was a "private contractor" for the Parkway Transcript from grade school to high school. Afternoon delivery suited me better.

The sad part is that the most reputable, trustworthy journalism cost money but the conspiracy theories, lies, and other BS is free. (Washington Post vs Fox News, etc.)

I know the Globe gives you so
I know the Globe gives you so many free articles per month, but I feel like that still keeps people from seeing too many of their stories. I love to share Globe articles on social media because it's reputable and trustworthy. I am also quite alarmed that much of the untrustworthy news is free, so people likely end up seeing it more often and spreading it more quickly.
I wonder if it makes sense for the Globe to allow you to access articles directly for free, but if you want to see what's in today's paper or browse articles from their home page, you have to pay. Basically, I want people who click on an article that their friend shared on social media to always be able to read it, but they won't be able to just read the full newspaper for free.

When John Henry bought the Boston Globe in 2013, most observers noted that it was the Morrissey Boulevard property that had the real value. He has since sold the property. As one media critic noted at the time, Henry bought the real estate and a newspaper came with it. The Herald appears to have been ahead of the curve in fleeing Boston now that the traditional, overpriced office setting has been rendered obsolete.

Braintree is not a part of Boston, either.
The Daily News shut their offices in New York City too this week. What’s the sense of paying rent on unused space, especially if you are not flush with cash.
Reporters need to be local.
When something happens, be it at the State House or Readville you have to be able to send someone over quickly. Unless of course you are the Herald and just reprint FB rumors and whatever Turtle Boy said (true or not).

But unless the management decreed that the reporters need to rent or buy housing in the Merrimack Valley, the net result of this is the same- reporters doing their work from their homes. Same as the New York Daily News. Most likely the same as the Globe.

Braintree is much more culturally connected to Boston than Lowell is.

God willing
I would never know who Monica Cannon-Grant, leader of several protest marches in early June, was if not for the Herald’s coverage of the homicide clearance rates in Boston and Ms. Cannon-Grant’s subsequent sit in at the Mayor’s office. Yes, the Herald does (or at least did) report on key issues the Globe didn’t.

Never mind the newspapers. I'm more interested in success stories of the new substance abuse fighting tenant. As a former addict who did not achieve long term sobriety from drugs through 12 step programs but through daily exercise, I applaud u in advance for your effort in fighting addiction. Exercise does wonders!
I remember when they were both in Boston
Good times. Now It's the Weekly Dig and a couple of other neighborhood based weekly papers although I'm not sure where any of the three I mentioned are actually printed.
No weekday home delivery north of the city
I checked their site over the weekend to see what was available for home delivery options.
