Somebody was stowing a portable pill-making plant, fentanyl in Quincy trailer, police say

Pill-making equipment seized in Wollaston

Quincy Police report the seizure of "a large-scale, illegal pill manufacturing operation" along with "a large quantity of fentanyl, powder base precursors, and commercial-grade pharmaceutical pill presses and machinery used in manufacturing" in a trailer stored in a rental-garage facility in the residential section of Wollaston.

All the stuff, seized on Jan. 6, was transported to police headquarters for safekeeping while DEA agents hunt the people who may have owned and used the equipment, police say.

If we can't rebuild the Deer Island Bridge to help the out-of-proportion numbers of the homeless and addicted roaming the streets of Boston, then keep the fentanyl manufacturing in Quincy.

Can someone explain why you would do this with Fentanyl?

This shit kills instantly, yet it seems like they were going out of their way to manufacture this into pills to give to people.

Ya think after all this time, these dealers would realize they are just killing customers off. Doesn't seem like a sound way to do business. Sure new people are addicted daily so always an influx of customers but still... not to sure I'd want to be the guy selling the shit that kills.

Are they that stupid or is there more to this that I am missing.

I'm assuming they'd cut it with filler to the point that it *wouldn't* kill the consumer.

Wikipedia says it's 50x stronger than heroin, so presumably you just need 1/50th the dose.

Exactly. It's counterintuitively cheaper and stronger than heroin. Heroin dealers who don't know what they're doing cut their heroin with it, without in turn cutting it to the appropriate level, and accidentally OD their customers.

My understanding is that what makes fentanyl deadly is that it's very easy to overdose, but that if you keep the dose below that range it'll do what opiates do. (It is in fact a drug that can be prescribed legally in certain contexts.) And from the point of view of the sellers, it's very profitable. One imagines they were using this equipment to try to make pills that would provide a non-lethal dose, but obviously there's always going to be significant risk in consuming illegal pharmaceuticals made in a trailer, so I would recommend that people not do that if that's an option.
