Hooded mergansers on Jamaica Pond

Mary Ellen spotted this pair of hooded mergansers (the male is the one using the bold splash of white) on Jamaica Pond yesterday.

I've seen several in the Muddy River in the Fens area this year as well! They're very cute and very wary -- the mallards will swim right up to the banks, but the hooded mergansers stay far away from people. Great shot!!
