Trolleys running on Green Line Extension to Union Square - test trains, but still, who'da thunk it?

Test trolleys on tracks between Union Square and Lechmere

Adam Nichols captured some of the action tonight on the Union Square stub, where Green Line operators have begun driving trolleys to test things out and get familiar with the new line.

The T now says the oft-delayed extension will begin carrying actual passengers this spring, at least on the stub, with the main part of the extension still scheduled to open for service in May.

https://www.mbta.com/projects/orange-line-transformation-program - it's not just new trainsets, it's power traction substations on the northern half, the signals, the maintenance yard, and the maintenance facility being overhauled. The T has also started soliciting contractors to rehab the track between Downtown Crossing and Forest Hills.

That's not counting the various projects they have going to improve Orange Line stations:

A couple of Saturdays ago, I had the occasion to ride the Red Line from South Station to Harvard Square and back. Trains were only running every 15 minutes, and every one crowded to the gills... in the middle of a pandemic, no less.

T management and Baker's b.s. oversight commission should have been fired long ago.

And then Tom Hanks punched the word "BELIEVE" into my Charlie Card. Man, what a trippy night.
