The owner of the Playwright bar on East Broadway in South Boston has filed plans to replace a neighboring building with a four-story 12-unit apartment building.
Joey Arcari's plans for 736-742 East Broadway, filed today with the Boston Planning Department, call for two of the units to be rented as affordable.
The ground floor of the building would consist of commercial space - likely a restaurant - in front of a six-space parking area behind the building.

The owner wants another
The owner wants another restaurant next door when his spot is empty 5 nights a week? Why not more residential but with With 12 units with only 6 spots? The 2 "affordable" units dont deserve to get parking spots. That leaves 6 spots for 10 units. Good luck finding parking.
The Playwright
He also owns the above (next to the library). It was recently renovated with increased capacity.
Who needs parking?
The #9 and the #7 both run right by. That'll get you to FiDi or Back Bay in one bus or to the red line quickly for an easy commute to Cambridge.
Say it with me: Transit. Oriented. Development.
I Need To Make The Ferry To Nantucket
I want to go to Newport / Portsmouth / Newburyport / Sugarbush / Tree House / Foxboro / My Dad's House / Costco / My Sister's House in Sudbury / A Drive in the Berkshires / The Store, etc.
I am not taking the T to these places. See?
Say it with me - Not Everyone Wants To Be On The T and We Have The Money To Be On It When We Want and When We Don't Have Too.
That's nice dear
Not everyone lives your lifestyle. Not every development needs to cater to you.
See?
That's Nice Dear
A lot more people follow the lifestyle that I have pointed out than yours.
I know you are too poor to follow that lifestyle, a lot of people can.
Sounds like you shouldn't buy in these buildings then
Which should lower the prices for those who do want to live there. win/win!
