Police: Woman with screwdriver 'secreted in her crotch area' charged with attempted armed robbery at Dorchester ATM

Boston Police report the arrest of an East Boston woman after officers on routine patrol spotted her punching a guy at an ATM at Dorchester Avenue and Adams Street around 12:30 this morning.

Police charge Erica Messina, 25, followed the guy into a Citizens Bank vestibule and, after he withdrew money to pay his rent:

[T]he female party blocked the exit and attempted to grab the money from him. The victim further reported that he was able to put his money in his wallet and put it in his pocket when the suspect grabbed his jacket, began pulling it over his head all the while punching him. The victim was able to get away from the suspect and exit the ATM vestibule.

Police say Messina was charged with assault with armed assault with intent to rob, because booking officers found a screwdriver "the suspect had secreted in her crotch area." Police say they added charges of assault and battery on a police officer and malicious destruction of property after she allegedly bit and attacked a police officer, breaking her glasses.
