Wild chase ends by the bear cages at the Franklin Park Zoo

AlertNewEngland reports two men in an apparently stolen car tried to speed away from police and wound up hitting a pedestrian on Columbus Avenue and two cars, including one that finally stopped them on Seaver Street.

The two men fled on foot. One suspect was quickly captured; the other made it to the bear cages at the Franklin Park Zoo before being apprehended.

Boston Police report the driver, Michael Johnson, 39, of Jamaica Plain was arrested and charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, driving to endanger, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in personal injury, and operating after revocation or suspension. His passenger, Stedmon Hill, 37, of Jamaica Plain was charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle.

The pedestrian suffered a broken leg, AlertNewEngland reports.

Traffic and bus service through Egleston Square was disrupted as police investigated the incident.

According to police, officers driving through Egleston Square noticed a bent license plate on a car in front of him.

At about the intersection of Columbus Ave. and Dimock St. officers discovered the car was stolen and almost simultaneously as officers activated their lights and sirens, the suspect motor vehicle took off, making a right turn onto Dimock Street. ... The suspect motor vehicle continued up Dimock St. and then made a right turn onto Cobden St. where all officers were directed to stop following the suspect car by a Supervisor as it had gone done a one way street in the wrong direction. The suspect motor vehicle apparently continued onto Walnut Ave. where it hit an occupied motor vehicle and was observed by a detail officer. The detail officer informed Operations of the stolen car, the fact that it had hit a car and its direction of travel. The suspect motor vehicle continued up Walnut Ave. to Seaver Street where it hit another motor vehicle and became disabled. At this point the two suspects jumped out of the car and took off on foot.

Innocent, etc.

that involved people shooting out of the car at people.

Saw three choppers overhead of that area...

I don't think there was any shooting. From what I could gather, BPD attempted to stop a vehicle with stolen number plates. The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed, and the pursuit was terminated for safety reasons. Officers were able to keep the vehicle in site, ant the operator lost control, resulting in the vehicle jumping the curb and striking someone on the sidewalk, breaking both of his legs. The driver and passenger fled on foot and were both apprehended quickly.
I heard at least 2 different news helicopters come up on the radio and state that they were going to the scene.

Looks like a Twitter ish: I see them when I'm logged into Twitter, but when I log out, they disappear as if removed by an occult hand.

I forgot to wear my tinfoil hat today, so I'm probably being suppressed. That would explain all of the black helicopters over the house.

Twitter is displaying everything correctly on my end. I even signed out, and was able to view everything. Maybe you need to clear your browser cache or some such? I haven't the foggiest.

I coulda sworn filming for "The Zookeeper" was over and Kevin James was around to film some crappy fat-wrestler-turned-MMA goofball comedy now...

If one guy was apprehended by the "bear cages," does that mean that Franklin Park Zoo suddenly got some bears?

Or did the guy foot it all the way to the Stoneham Zoo's bear cages?

Thanks, I've never had the opportunity to bump into those bear cages. Sounds like I don't want to, either.

Amazing what there is on these intertubes...

If you saw the movie "Mystic River", the girl's body was found at the bear cages.

a few years back there were beautiful graffiti murals of animals that decorated the walls of the large cage. It was a shame that they were covered over by some nondescript gray paint. The city of Boston seal being held aloft by two bears is one of the best features of the cages.

That said, my wife and I haven't been back since we interrupted a scene of public "inflagranti" being in the manner done on the Discovery channel. Yuck.

Not that there's anything wrong with it:

Do it now
You and me baby ain't nothin' but mammals
So let's do it like they do on the Discovery Channel
Do it again now
You and me baby ain't nothin' but mammals
So let's do it like they do on the Discovery Channel
Gettin' horny now
