Man shot in the chest in Dorchester

WBZ reports somebody sitting in a car on Olney Street was shot around 1:30 p.m. Because of the severity of the person's injuries, the homicide unit was summoned. The Herald reports the shooting was likely "gang related" and that the victim should survive.

Scott Eisen photographed the scene.

"The fact of the matter can't be denied that the white college kids would be too afraid to stage a "die-in" on Olney or Norton Street at 6:00 P.M." anon (not verified) on Thu, 01/01/2015 - 4:29pm

Clairvoyant! I'm not sure if anon 4:29pm knew when he posted here on the "BPL Die-In" thread that yet another Olney Street shooting had already taken place just moments earlier. It hadn't been widely reported then. Regardless, the die-ins and protests in the safety of Copley Square make little sense. In Missouri and in NY, the Grand Jurors have spoken. The police were cleared. Let it go now. Let the criminals now deceased rest in peace also. Adam belittles those who question the First Amendment rights of protesters but rarely acknowledges the Fifth Amendment right of all US citizens (including police) to have evidence of a felony presented to a Grand Jury. In both cases that happened and the police were cleared.

By rolling out the red carpet 87 times to "race baiting poverty pimp" Reverend Al Sharpton, (quote from black former U.S. Rep J.C Watts (R-OK), Obama only stokes the flames of unrest, instead of encouraging all citizens to support and cooperate with the police, even if they feel they were wronged. In each Police Department, there is a strict protocol for Civilian Complaints of Police Misconduct. Beyond that is the federal court where a small percentage but still many public officials, including police, are regularly sentenced to jail. If black lives really do matter, let's see the protesters on Olney or Norton.

I'm the one who wrote yesterday that the protestors won't ever be seen anywhere near Olney or Norton and I can confirm, I did NOT know about this shooting until just now. swrlygrrl, you still think there's a chance for Bowdon-Geneva to be the next downtown crossing in 25 years? I'm leaning towards no.

I did, however, know about the triple shooting on Norton St on Christmas Day (that yielded no protests or outrage by the way).

I'm going to use my time machine to send you back 25 years. Meet me at 3rd and Broadway in Cambridge. Heck, I'll time it so you can see a 6'6" tall friend of mine get mugged by two masked kids with a knife.

Then we can move forward to 2040 in the neighborhood you cite, and see if we should scoop up some properties in 2015 ...

You're comparing Cambridge to Bowdoin - Geneva. You do realize this right? One of the most dangerous and volatile neighborhoods in Boston, where multiple have been killed in the last couple months.. to your one bad experience in Cambridge. This isn't lost on you is it?

Cambridge 25 years ago is not comparable to Bowdoin/Geneva, at all, ever.

I'm talking about "Mission Control" that never was - Kendall and the abandoned manufacturing area that was much of the area all the way to Lechmere. Very dangerous in the 70s and 80s.

You fail to see the distinction between systemic racism among police, and gang violence?

There is an expectation of police to protect citizens, not execute them.

He'll take a heaping helping of #2, but all that stuff in numbers 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8,14, and 19 he doesn't cotton to.

Fortunately, the BPD has heard of them and is respecting them, with great skill in this case.

I agree there is a connection between racism and gang violence. When there is lots of crime and violence from a nationality, race, gender, age group, or other identifiable characteristic, human nature dictates one be on guard encountering it. Its Darwinism. Such caution produces survivors who go on to reproduce.

By that logic you're using, I shouldn't want any white Americans near me. One of them could be violent.
