Boston deserves to have a great STEM exam school but The John D. O'Bryant School of Mathematics and Science isn't that school. It can't be that school as long as it in its current location.

Let's say you're a student in the BPS. You have a passion for Chemistry and know you want to study it in college. You receive invitations to Boston Latin, Latin Academy and the O'Bryant School. Gosh - which one will you choose? Probably not the one that shares a site with Madison Park and makes you easy pickings during the walk to and from school and the T.

From what I have inferred, you seem to be saying Boston Latin and Latin Academy are easy choices over O'Bryant. Boston Latin, sure, but I'm not sure why you'd so easily rank Academy over O'Bryant on location alone.

Granted I've spent more time in the Academy area as I have friends on Townsend (though I have never had an issues over that way), I have never viewed that area as noticeably more safe than the Roxbury Crossing area. If anything, this is an indictment of the BPD as this is happening pretty much on their doorstep.

The fact that O'Bryant and MP share a location does not speak to why the robberies are happening. MP students are being robbed as well. This is a city-wide issue for our schools that are not in "safer" communities. Your statement is accusatory and even inflammatory.

Latin Academy is leaps and bounds over the O'Bryant school, only sad thing about BLA is they have/had some really good teachers their that care about their students but lack the funding that BLS has.

According to the 2014 US News and World Report rankings,
John D. O'Bryant School of Mathematics and Science is 9th in the state, #213 nationwide
Boston Latin Academy is 15th in the state, #353 nationwide

Both schools are really good schools and offer a solid college-prep education to Boston students.

And, unfortunately, both schools do not have the alumni endowment that Boston Latin enjoys.
