Police: Woman tearfully said purse with gun in her lap wasn't hers but made no similar claim about gun in her underwear

Boston Police report arresting a Fall River woman they say officers found with two guns after they responded to a report of gunfire in Dorchester Wednesday night.

Police say the officers were looking around the area of Stanwood Street after the BPD ShotSpotter system indicated gunfire there around 10:05 p.m. when they noticed a group of people standing around a car parked outside 43 Oldfields Rd. and went over to ask if they'd heard or seen anything:

Two males began to act nervous and attempted to walk away from the vehicle. Due to their actions and the nature of the call, officers pat frisked the individuals and the vehicle. As the officers frisked the vehicle, a female sitting in the vehicle began to cry and told the officers that the purse sitting on her lap was not hers. Due to her actions, officers frisked the purse and found a loaded Rossi M971 .357 Magnum revolver. The female was arrested and a more thorough search of her person revealed a loaded 9mm Walther P39 handgun in the female’s underwear.

Saleeta Cross, 26, of Fall River, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and unlawfully carrying a loaded firearm, police say.

Also arrested: David Cherry, 27, of Chelsea and Eumaani Springer, 20, of Dorchester on the same charges - although Cherry faces potentially higher penalties because this would be at least his second such offense. They were also charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute after officers found "two large jars of marijuana and a large sum of money," police say, adding they were also already wanted on assault-and-battery warrants.

Innocent, etc.

The report references three incidents in which a total of four guns were recovered (two for the incident above).

Why are MA's alleged 'tough' laws paper tigers?

It seems like felons get to re-offend with impunity here thanks to deals which offer little to no time for serious crimes.

If the law required people to go to trial instead of allowing deals maybe something resembling justice would exist in this state.

Really, par for the course. What a joke our state is with enforcing gun laws.

I bet that gun in her underwear was hot.....

Seriously, what were they planning?
A few drive bys, robberies or gun sales?
I'm glad they were caught.
