Let's make sure those efforts we had to dealing with addicts and homeless that was working as well as one could hope for considering the social boundaries of the people involved, isn't implemented; you know, a bridge to Long Island.

Next time the annual memorial to the homeless who have died is held on the Common, let's make sure that the local political establishment remembers this one.

That would be so unfair and disruptive to all the good work B.good is doing out on that island with the idea of a city based farm that they totally came up with and developed by themselves and definitely didn't take via insider connections from the previous operators.

What's more important here - the homeless or the corporate image of some Boston hipster version of 5 Guys?

Except for the fact that it existed, why is shipping all the homeless out of sight to a shelter on a harbor island a good idea?

The area around Newmarket resembles a refugee camp for lost souls from all over Massachusetts who make their way from Andrew station looking for heroin or methadone at the local clinic and shelter.

More like all over New England, all over the northeast, all over the east coast.

Thirty years ago Americans bought into Reagan and his gutting of social services, especially state-based mental health services in favor of lower taxes and breaks for the corporate wealthy. State hospitals and detoxes were emptied onto the streets and sold as valuable real estate by our politicians. The media cooperated and demonized state hospitals and detoxes. What you see is what you get.

What has happened to crime PREVENTION in this city? The city has allowed a no-go zone for decent citizens to form at Melnea Cass and Mass Ave. It is outrageous and dangerous. Addicts are not all hapless victims. Some are violent criminals. It seems someone has to get killed for any common-sense crime prevention methods to be utilized.

I knew this man. He was a music major, had a huge heart, sang in the choir and was very active in his church. He built a new life from a horrible past. He was sober and had many friends, but suffered from a mental illness. I don't know what happened to Steve other than he was brutally beaten. His last Facebook entry was "If nobody told you they loved you today, I do." Early in the day of his murder, he posted that he was having a good day. We never know when we will be told a story like this. I could sit and ponder the (whys and what ifs) for days. My chest is tight and I could cry. No more suffering my friend. You ran the race and now you're at peace. I'm so sorry you suffered, you will be greatly missed.
This could be someone you love. Give them an extra hug or kiss or call...whatever makes them and you feel loved. I'm so sad. This is not about politics, it's about my friend being in the wrong place at the wrong time and ending up dead. I hurt.

To you and Stephen's other loved ones. I'm truly saddened by his murder and I'm sure many posters on this site are as well.

However, I kindly suggest you don't follow the comments here nor elsewhere on the web.

People will post in keeping with their agendas and most will have no regard for your friend, his loved ones, nor how he lived his life.

Cherish his memories with those who knew him and don't even read comments from those who never knew him. No good will come from it.

RIP to your friend and my thoughts are with his loved ones.
