Gunfire in Dorchester leads to arrests a couple blocks away

Boston Police report officers responding to gunfire at 28 Bowdoin St. last night arrested two men on gun charges a couple blocks away on Corona Street.

Police say officers canvassing the area after gunfire was reported on Bowdoin shortly before 11 p.m. spotted two guys who matched a witness's description entering an address on Corona:

When the officers approached the two men, one of them, later identified as Osiris Banks, 19, of Dorchester, immediately turned away from the officers in a bladed stance and placed his hands on the waistband area of his pants, leading them to believe he was armed. The officers advanced on the suspect and placed him in custody at which time they recovered a loaded 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun from his pants. It was later determined that the serial number of the firearm had been removed. The second suspect, later identified as Shaldon Pascal, 20, of Dorchester, was placed in custody without incident.

Banks was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of a large-capacity feeding device, possession of a firearm with an altered serial number and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, police say. Pascal was charged with assault by means of a dangerous weapon.

Innocent, etc.

As I read this sitting behind my keyboard, coffee in hand on a Monday morning, I offer my thanks and admiration to the Youth Violence Strike Force officers who took this gun and would-be murderers off the street late last night.

Great job, BPD.
