Police charge more than just food was on the menu at Charlestown eatery

That's a pound of fentanyl, not dough, the DA's office says.
Boston Police report raiding a Bunker Hill Street restaurant they say doubled as a drug salesroom.
After the raid, around 1:30 p.m., yesterday, ISD was called in to immediately shut D'Rafa Restaurant, 156 Bunker Hill St., due to the potential dangers of the drugs in the place - heroin, cocaine and fentanyl - police say.
Arrested: Rafel Pimental, 46, Juan Guerrero-Torrest, 28, Matea Sanchez, 60, Rosselys Pimental-Melo, 23, and Ada Mejia-Mejia, 40, all of Charlestown, and all charged with trafficking heroin, trafficking fentanyl and trafficking cocaine.
Police say they seized half a kilogram of fentanyl, 29 bags of crack, 10 bags or heroin and $7,144 in cash.

What's good in Roslindale?
Not for drugs but Latino food. Eaten at Yucatan (solid), Las Palmas (not... my thing), Romano's (Mexican side of the menu, fine).
I'll vouch for La Taqueria
And an old chum from Old Roslindale days gives La Lechonera a thumbs up.
Puerto Rican and Caribbean food
is not the same as Mexican, which is different from Central American, which is different from Brazilian, which is different from Bolivian, Peruvian, Chilean, Argentinian, etc., etc.

I've written many unkind words about the Roslindale Pimentals on this website, but seeing as we had a Connolly and a Conley running for mayor 4 years ago, each a political star in their own right, and we had 2 Cahills running for State Treasurer back in 2006, neither related, I concur. The Charlestown Pimentals are probably a different family.

After a recent trip to the Monument, we wanted to find a place for dinner. The only options were a very expensive place, a noisy historic pub (maybe for another night), and a Todd English pizza place (yechhh).

The noisy place is probably Ironsides, which really is a good neighborhood spot - I've had many beers there. Good place to watch games.
Brewer's Fork and Navy Yard Bistro are my favorites.

I was assuming Tangerino's or the Bistro were the "really expensive" place. :) Bistro's awesome, a real neighborhood gem. I actually had my wedding there and as such it's our go-to "date night" spot. John's good people and I wish he'd gotten the old five cents building.

Food desert
Charlestown has been an absolute wasteland for restaurants. Monument, Brewer's Fork and Blackmoor are all good recent entrants ... but places have a hard time staying open.

Reminds me of a few places. One, the Brookline Village spa from
20 years ago that always had half-empty shelves with expired food. Turns out their main revenue source was retail weed.
Then there was the "upscale" liquor store at Mass Ave and Washington in the South End, which I walked into once, found the prices on their shitty stock risibly high, and walked out, baffled, never to return. It closed after a year or so for unspecified drug dealing.
My best story might be the Waltham Tavern, my favored South End bucket-o'-blood dive for years, the last of its kind in the neighborhood. The Ham's building is now luxury condos: Peter King lived in one of them for a while. Sonny's old social club / office up the block is now The Wholy Grain, a fancy little cafe. One old story posits Sonny strangling a rival there. I always chuckle to think how oblivious the local yoga moms must be to its sordid history.

Fentanyl doses are measured in micrograms. 3 milligrams are enough to kill an adult human. If I did my arithmetic right, and if that were pure fentanyl, it would be enough to kill 15,000 people.

When a relative did a bust for the Coasties, he actually got dosed from inhaling dust off of it when they pulled it out of the hold and it was still wrapped (he was wearing gloves).
