Two men arrested on gun charges in Mattapan in 2017 arrested again on gun charges in Mattapan

Boston Police report arresting Josiah Stirling, 29, of West Roxbury and Naquan Mahone, 23, of Mattapan, on gun charges after a chase and a "violent struggle" on New Year's Day.

According to police, two officers conducting an investigation spotted the pair walking in the area of Woodruff Way and Woodbole Avenue around 1 p.m. on Jan. 1:

Upon seeing the officers approaching, Stirling came to an abrupt stop while Mahone immediately took off running while pinning his arm against the right side of his waist. As the officers pursued, they observed Mahone discard a firearm on the ground which was safely recovered and later determined to be a loaded 9mm Smith and Wesson M&P Shield handgun equipped with a TR4 laser sight attached. The suspect continued to flee through neighboring backyards while scaling several fences. Despite their best efforts, the suspect was able to allude the officers.

As the foot pursuit was unfolding, officers attempted to perform a pat frisk of Stirling at which time a violent struggle ensued. As the officers struggled to gain control of the suspect, a holstered firearm fell from the waist band area of the suspect. Officers were eventually able to place the suspect in custody at which time they safely recovered the holstered firearm which was determined to be a loaded .45 caliber Rock Island Armory M1911 A1-FS handgun with a defaced serial number.

Stirling was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm (second and subsequent offense), unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

Malone evaded capture until Wednesday afternoon, when officers found him on Ridgeview Avenue in Mattapan and arrested him on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm (second and subsequent offense), unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

Dorchester Judge Lisa Grant set bail at $10,000 for Stirling and $5,000 for Mahone, ordering both to return to court on Feb. 1, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. However, Stirling will not be going anywhere even if he can make bail, because Grant revoked his bail on an unrelated charge out of Brockton.

Police say the two "were known to them through previous interactions" - such as their arrest, along with a third man, on gun charges in Mattapan Square on Aug. 5, 2017.

Mahone's case was dismissed in October; Stirling was acquitted in a jury trial in November, the DA's office reports.

Innocent, etc.

Surely, a liberal judge in Boston will devalue the hard work of Boston Police who apprehended these criminals and release them into society with minimum penalty. They always do.

What about their citizenship? Or do you only care about that when the suspects have latin-sounding names?

I don’t care where they’re from. If they’re here illegally, they shouldn’t be and the should be sent packing. I say start the deportations with the illegal Irish and go from there.

So these career scumbags (who obviously don't work) were caught YET AGAIN with illegal firearms....for the love of gawd, what the actual F is wrong with the judges in this city/state?

Let's go to the tape from the 2017 arrest...."Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm, and Receiving Stolen Property over $250 (Firearm). Stirling will be additionally charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (2nd & Subsequent Offense).

So this means that the arrest this week was Sterling's THIRD friggin arrest for illegal firearms? At what point will this dangerous waste of space be taken off the streets? How can we discover this dirtbag's address in Westie? I wonder if his landlord or neighbors would like to know that they have a shithead frequently carrying illegal guns into/out of the area.

People! These criminals are the problem - not law-abiding gun owners. Criminals like this are the ones responsible for the 58 murders in Boston last year (and 700+ in cities like Chicago).

Until liberal judges start acting with our well-being in mind, this shit will go on and on.

Huge thanks to the BPD officers who continue to risk their lives catching these dangerous idiots again and again - only to have them released back into our neighborhoods by judges who evidently don give a shit about public safety.

Enough.

Before we jump on ljudges, please note that one of them went to trial - and was acquitted. The other had his charges dismissed. So maybe the evidence against them the first time was not so good.

Adam, you cover this stuff better than anyone. You can't honestly say you don't see a systemic problem with leniency from Judges can you? this guy has three illegal firearm arrests - along with other arrests. There is a problem in our courts.

Don't jump on the judges? Tell that to the family of Amy Lord. Remember when Edward Alemany? That criminal shithead raked up 30 criminal charges over the span of 10 years before he brutally murdered that innocent girl. Many of those were for violent crimes, burglary, etc.

How the F was that guy walking around the streets of Boston without judges having gone easy on him?

30 criminal charges! - the guy did a total of like 2 years time over the course of a 10-year crime spree.

And when one of these morons from this week eventually kills someone (which is likely when they are evidently always carrying illegal guns), we'll look back and say the same damn thing.

Police do their part to keep us safe, then judges seemingly find every excuse to let them walk.

It's a disgrace.

Let’s not forget the subhuman who was able to slash the throats of two productive people in South Boston a couple of years ago due to the fact that activist judges didn’t want him prosecuted for bank robbery as it might lead to his being deported. Also, the judge in Newton, who literally hatched an escape plan for another illegal alien who, I’m sure, will use the opportunity to do only good things from now on.
Judges ARE the problem.

Amen Carmella. The luntatic judge in Newton let the illegal alien go despite the fact that an ICE agent was in the courtroom ready to detain and hopefully deport him.

But I stead of implementing justice, she let him escape through the back door of the Newton courthouse, then he ran through the parking lot, over a fence, and he was gone.

And he probably won't be seen until he gets arrest for another crime.

Disgrace.

CHARGES are not the same as CONVICTIONS.

Cops and DAs have been known to pile on charges, and not all of them are founded.

You need to look at CONVICTIONS not CHARGES ... and what sort of penalties are given for those convictions. They are NOT the same thing.

These liberal judges aren’t even hearing the charges in many cases. They are literally dismissing cases without hearing evidence at the first hearing after the arraignment. This is the problem. Police have become apathetic because they see the good, dangerous work they do get dismissed by these judges time and time again.

If judges don't hear charges, that's because they are dropped. They are dropped for lots of reasons that have zero to do with judges because judges don't see them.

Plenty to learn here, too. Start with "presumption of innocence" and work your way up.

Tell that to the Boston Police Drug Officers who spend countless man hours developing solid cases against dangerous, repeat drug offenders, only to get to court and see liberal judges continue the case without finding, suspend the sentences, give probation on top of the probation the defendant is already subject to, or outright dismiss the case without cause. I’m not talking about the run of the mill junkie who breaks into houses and cars or steals anything they can get their hands on, who the liberals and those in the recovery industry say are only a danger to themselves, I’m talking about violent drug dealers. People with extremely long criminal records. When are judges going to be held accountable and why are you quick to defend them?

At least in the first prior Adam noted, it’s the jury’s fault. If only we could get rid of juries, judges, and perhaps even trials, then we’d have justice. Right?

Nice trolling but nope, it's pretty clear that people just want judges to do their fucking jobs. That means sentencing criminals based on the laws we have on the books (especially regarding ILLEGAL firearms), and to stop siding with repeat criminal scumbags. Judges are the last line of defense between crminals and law-abiding citizens - and they seem to forget that.

But in one case we needed the jury to do its job. And since they didn’t convict him, they must have not done their job, right? Therefore, we should get rid of the whole trial thing in order for some version of justice to be served.

It’s hard enough getting juries to look at the evidence and come up with a verdict based upon it. We don’t need judges simply dismissing cases, giving light sentences to violent people, and doing what they can to make life easy on the law breaker.

Get rid of judges and just settle disputes as they happen? Where do I sign up?

You learned little or nothing about "old west" history in school.

And you have learned little or nothing since.

Pro Tip: use a library sometime. Judges freaking made the West a lawful place suitable for nation building by bringing the rule of law to the vast expanses of territory. If you don't know or understand that, you need to do a bunch of reading.
