Police: Hyde Park man holds up Cask 'n Flagon employees, fires gun

Boston Police report arresting Leonard Payne, 54, of Hyde Park on charges he held up two employees inside the Cask 'n Flagon on Brookline Avenue and fired his gun before fleeing.

Police say Payne - who has past convictions - got into the bar shortly before 3 a.m., as employees were cleaning up. He showed his gun to two workers and demanded money, then ran away with whatever he got. Police say responding officers spotted a guy walking down Newbury Street, not far from the bar, who matched a broadcast description of the suspect.

As they approached, the officers observed that the suspect kept his right hand tightly inside his jacket pocket despite their verbal commands to do otherwise. Officers were able to gain control of the suspect’s right hand at which time they safely recovered a loaded .380 caliber Cobra handgun from inside his coat pocket. The suspect was placed in custody without incident after being positively identified. Investigators are continuing their efforts at this time in an attempt to locate the stolen U.S. Currency.

Payne was charged with armed and masked robbery, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, armed kidnapping, discharging a firearm with 500 feet of a dwelling, aggravated witness intimidation, unlawful possession of a firearm with three prior violent or drug crimes, unlawful possession of a firearm, third offense, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm on a public way and possession of Class B drugs, police say.

Innocent, etc.

At first I was all like "The Mug and Muffin has been gone for years!".

Then I re-read the post.

Got to love how he is on his 3rd offenses for serious felonies and still walking around like a one man crime-wave.

Hey judges! How ya doing? Hello?!

we should have a 2 or 3 strikes law?

He should have been sentenced to life after his second conviction?

Before you go on your next rant about the need for more gun control (which mostly impacts people who are law-abiding gun owners), please refer to exhibit A - Mr. Leonard Payne.

Armed and masked robbery, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, armed kidnapping, discharging an (ILLEGAL) firearm with 500 feet of a dwelling, aggravated witness intimidation, UNLAWFUL possession of a firearm with three prior violent or drug crimes, unlawful possession of a firearm, THIRD OFFENSE, UNLAWFUL possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded (ILLEGAL) firearm on a public way and possession of Class B drugs, police say.

We do not need more gun laws in Massachusetts. Instead, we need to put career, repeat scumbags away for a LONG time and keep them separated from civilization.

Note to liberal parole board lunatics - This guy is a dirtbag, he likes to use ILLEGAL FIREARMS, he will re-offend, I repeat, he will re-offend.

Pretty simple for those who have half a brain, and actually want to keep people safe.

a) you are responding to the approximately ZERO people who are using this as an opportunity to call for gun control. we know people are going to obtain guns illegally, just as they do drugs.
b) consider your response when you hear about a 'troubled young boy' who commits a mass shooting after legally purchasing a firearm despite being on FBI watch lists and/or was taking anti-psychotic medications. There are so many cases like this every single year and you folks are silent during that.

You are proving my point. Thank you kindly. Liberals only lose their minds when a mentally-disturbed white guy goes off the rails and tragically kills people. The come out of the woodwork to tell us that we need more laws, and white, conservative gun owners are the problem, etc.

But where are they when 700+ (mostly minority) people are gunned down every year in Chicago? Is it that you don't care about inner city violence - which exponentially outweighs deaths from mass shooting incidents by far.

And why don't liberal anti-gun folks call for equal action against lenient judges and parole boards who continually let these repeat scumbags out on the streets?

As a law-abiding gun owner, I am in full support of background checks and mental health screenings. Most gun owners I know feel the same. Your narrative is a false one. The reality is that the majority of these dirtbags who use illegal firearms will continue to do so until they kill someone, or are killed themselves.

And personally, I don't want to be the victim or a statistic of some liberal judge's "there is good in everyone" policies.
