Police: Teen was riding around Dorchester in car with loaded high-capacity gun - and two young kids not in car seats

Boston Police report arresting a Charlestown teen too young to be named on gun charges - and his older driver - last night following gunfire on Glenarm Street in Dorchester.

Officers from the BPD gang unit made the arrest on Jacob Street, which is nearly two miles away, but which is near Norfolk Street, where they'd been directed to patrol after receiving information that the Glenarm gunfire might have been by somebody from that area, police say.

Police say the officers stopped the car after watching it turn from Norfolk onto Woodrow Avenue without the driver signaling.

While speaking with the operator, officers were informed that he did not have an active license to operate a motor vehicle in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The operator was removed from the vehicle and placed under arrest.

At this time, while speaking with the two rear passengers, one of whom stated that he was in possession of a firearm. The rear passenger was removed from the vehicle and officers recovered a Taurus Millennium 9mm firearm loaded with twelve rounds of live ammunition. The rear passenger was placed under arrest. Each of the remaining occupants were removed from the vehicle, including a five-year-old and a six-year-old. Officers identified the passengers who were then released from the scene.

The driver, William Walker, 28, of Dorchester, was charged with operating under suspension, subsequent offense and was giving a ticket for child not secured in a car seat. He was already wanted on warrants for operating under suspension, unarmed robbery and domestig assault and battery. The teenager, 16, was charged with being delinquent for unlawful possession of a large-capacity firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition, police say.

Innocent, etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 28 year old had the gun but got the 16 year old to hold it as he would likely get off easier.

I think I saw them at about 3pm at washington and park. I didn't see the firearm obviously but I noticed the kids in the back with no carseats or even seatbelts. I guess I glad i didn't confront them but I should have reported it.

What is the situation at home for those kids that made driving around with an unlicensed driver and another passenger with a lethal weapon the best option?
