Scituate man charged with trying to strangle T cop after smashing a window at South Station

Quigley

Transit Police report arresting Jonathan Quigley, 32, on charges he smashed a window inside South Station by hurling a bottle at it and then tried to strangle a Transit cop who came to investigate yesterday afternoon.

According to police, an officer was alerted to the freshly smashed window - 15 feet up by the bus terminal on the Atlantic Avenue side - by a witness around 5:25 p.m.

The reporting party then pointed out Quigley to the officer who at this time was walking towards Track 1. The officer yelled out to Quigley several times but Quigley refused to stop. The officer caught up to Quigley and attempted to investigate. Quigley immediately responded with anger and attempted to strike the officer in the head. The officer avoided the strike and Quigley then grabbed the officer by his throat and began to strangle him. A violent struggle ensued where the officer was able to fend off his attacker and additional officers responded to assist.

Quigley was charged with strangulation, resisting arrest and malicious destruction of property, police say.

Innocent, etc.
