Somebody fired a gun repeatedly on East Cottage Street, then discarded it around the corner and fled before police arrived

Boston Police report that officers responding to a call about gunfire outside 152 East Cottage St., near Edward Everett Square around 7 p.m. on Saturday found "multiple spent shell casings and other ballistic evidence" there.

Witnesses directed officers to an alley a block or so away on Massachusetts Avenue, where they found "a 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun which had been discarded on the ground."

Nobody was apparently hit by the rounds, police say.
