Man charged with absconding with Peapod truck in the South End while driver was making a delivery
Boston Police report arresting Hyde Park man they say jumped behind the wheel of a Peapod delivery truck outside 10 East Springfield St. in the South End this morning.
Police say the driver had gotten out to make a delivery when Wilfredo Burgos, 40, jumped in and sped off, around 7:45 a.m.
The victim provided a description of the male as well as pertinent information about the delivery truck. A short time later, officers assigned to District E-13 (Jamaica Plain) observed the truck driving on School Street in Jamaica Plain. Detectives followed the vehicle before it came to a stop in the driveway at 12 School Street and placed the operator under arrest.
Burgos was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, police say.
School Street is in Egleston Square, where Burgos was arrested last year on charges of assault and battery on a police officer and for various open court cases. Both Burgos and the officer had to be taken to local hospitals after, police say, Burgos briefly escaped arrest and ran onto Washington Street and the officer followed and both were hit by the same car.
