Man charged with trying to kidnap young girl in Jamaica Plain after first picking her up and kissing her on the head

Boston Police report arresting a Jamaica Plain man they charge tried to abscond with with a four-year-old girl, but who was stopped by family members who ran after him and grabbed him and held him until police arrived.

Police say the girl was playing outside around 6:40 p.m., on a street police did not specify, when Anthony Jackson, 31, approached:

The suspect took the four-year-old by the hand, picked her up and kissed her. He then took several steps while holding her and proceeded to walk away. A witness yelled to the suspect to put the child down and then alerted the victim’s family members who chased the suspect and were able to stop him in the area.

Jackson was charged with kidnapping somebody under 16 and indecent assault and battery on a child, police say.

Innocent, etc.

Thank God for the quick actions taken by family members. It will be interesting to find out how many times Jackson has been arrested before.

brave humans who held the suspect until police arrived.
they probably prevented future kidnappings.

"held the suspect" was a bit if an euphemism. And to be fair, I would like to think I would have "held" him, too.

This happened across the street from my house and I was actually one of the people who called the cops because it looked like someone was about to get the shit beat out of them. It was not a euphemism. They surrounded the guy. I just didn't realize from my vantage point that they had a legitimate reason for doing so. I'm glad the cops (who showed up in massive numbers and seemed to remain very calm) took the time to figure out what was going on.

You might want to look up what an euphemism is. To say that the suspect was “surrounded” leaves out a lot of what happened.

Good for the bystander and the other neighbors who were there to save that 4 year old girl from being kidnapped and/or possibly worse, at the hands of a total stranger. I seriously wonder if the guy who attempted to kidnap the little girl has managed to kidnap other young children and gotten away with it, and this time, hopefully, maybe he won't.
