Man charged with beating and injuring BTD supervisor in Grove Hall

A Dorchester man was arraigned this morning on charges he sent an overnight supervisor for the Boston Transportation Department to the hospital by punching and kicking him at Georgia and Hartwell streets in Grove Hall in Roxbury around 1:20 a.m.

Roxbury Municipal Court Judge Shelley Joseph ordered Kenneth Jordan Vandergrift, 34, held in lieu of $500 bail on two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (shod foot) on a person over 60 and assault and battery with serious injury on a person over 60, according to court records.

The victim's injuries were not considered life threatening, police say.

Police were aided in their search for Vandergrift because he dropped his state ID at the scene. They found and arrested him not long after a couple blocks away outside Prince Hall on Washington Street.

Innocent, etc.

are interchangeable code for places where "they" live. But seriously folks, there never was a town of Mattapan. It was always part of the Town of Dorchester, a fairly rural community which was annexed by Boston in 1870. Roxbury was like Charlestown, an upscale independent town, prior to annexation.

Yes. Dorchester if you ask the post office (zip code) but really Roxbury (trash pickup schedule, street sweeping, historical maps).

mailman in Grove Hall, dating back to 1988, Grove Hall is 02121 and Roxbury (abutting) is 02119 and 12120.
Saying Grove Hall in Roxbury would be like saying Allston in Brighton or Fields Corner in Savin Hill.
They're separate entities within the same city.

is in Roxbury is like saying that part of Roslindale is in Hyde Park, or part of Fields Corner is in Savin Hill. Does that make sense?
