Man charged with stabbing another man multiple times on the Common
Boston Police report arresting a man they say stabbed somebody repeatedly near the Brewer Fountain on Boston Common earlier this month.
Police say Philip Chen, 27, of Quincy, stabbed a senior man several times near the fountain around 8:15 a.m. on Oct. 1. The victim was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries but was expected to survive.
At his arraignment in Boston Municipal Court today, Judge James Coffey ordered Chen sent to Bridgewater State Hospital to determine if he is competent to stand trial, on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery on an elderly or disabled person causing serious injury and larceny under $250 from an elderly or disabled person.court records show.
His next scheduled court date is Nov. 1.
Police say detectives identified Chen as the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant for him on Friday.
Around 12:10 a.m. on Saturday, officers conducting a drug investigation spotted Chen at Summer and Otis streets and arrested him, police say.
