Massachusetts General Hospital yesterday filed its latest plans for replacing several current buildings and a parking lot with a new two-wing building with 1 million square feet of new clinical space and patient rooms that could be more easily converted into ICU use in another pandemic - and which would include space for a headhouse, or entrance, for a possible Red/Blue Line station. Roxbury Prep told supporters today it's given up on plans to build a new high school on Belgrade Avenue at the Roslindale/West Roxbury line, four years after it first proposed the idea, only to be confronted by both angry residents and a BPDA bureaucracy that kept the plans bottled up far longer than it took to get a 55-story skyscraper downtown approved. The BPDA board today approved plans by developers to raze several buildings at the sprawling Mildred Hailey Apartments complex in Jamaica Plain and replace their current 253 Section 8 apartments with all new units - and add 420 additional income-restricted apartments and an all new street grid, green space and pathways intended to stitch the complex into the neighboring community, rather than walling it off. The Zoning Board of Appeal today rejected a developer's request to add another floor and double the number of apartments at 632-638 Centre St. in Jamaica Plain, which had been a hole in the ground for years before a developer finally got permission to build a three-story building, then stopped to try to get permission to finish the thing off as a four-story building.
