Globe Direct sucks

Andrew Teman illustrates the brutal and short life of a Globe Direct bag, at least the ones that are lobbed at the houses of people who care what their streets look like.

We'd gone several weeks without a Globe Direct dropping landing on our property, and were feeling pretty good about that. But when I opened the front door today, there was one of the sucky Globe Direct bags somehow perched on one of the railings along our front steps.

Some people talk about Globe Direct, but Jonathan Kamens is doing something about it: He's contacting all the advertisers he sees in the weekly red-bag-of-unwantedness. He posts a transcript of the voice-mail response he got from Shaws:

The Cambridge City Council on Monday considers a proposal to have the city manager try to get the Globe to stop littering the streets with those Globe Direct circulars that many residents never asked for in the first place.

An annoyed citizen complains about Globe Direct bags (now in new clear plastic!) befouling Sumner Street in East Boston:

I've called the globe to have my name/address removed and they keep appearing. There are 3 in the street in front of our single family. Please contact the globe as I will continue to as well.

Globe Direct sucks

A disgusted citizen complains about how Globe Direct sucks by bespoiling Soley Street in Charlestown:

Can globe direct ever be stopped. Christmas came early on soley st where they gave several papers to each house, gave many to the sidewalk, and even gave some to the snow bank. Can they be fined for littering, or I am willing to recycle all of these as long as they never return.

Mike Ball notes the phenomenon of people who are pissed at the Globe Direct pink poop bag - and who express their anger by just letting them pile up on their porches or front steps:

It’s as though the homeowners expect the advertising elves to acknowledge their errors and remove the rubble. They’ll be waiting a long, long time.

He adds the same thing happens with the annual visits from the phone-book fairy.

Another one of Globe Direct's pink dog-poop bags showed up on our porch this morning, several weeks after they first told me they would stop and two weeks after I first wrote "Globe Direct sucks" and they said they would stop. Maybe if we actually had a dog, these bags would prove useful, but we don't.

Globe Direct

A disgusted citizen reports from Orleans Street in East Boston:

Globe Direct mailers strewn across the sidewalk, picture does not illustrate the dozens of plastic wrapped advertisements littering the entire sidewalk block. These mailings promote littering and are an environmental hazard.

UPDATE: The city reports:

Ticket was issued on 10-25-13 by officer clougher.

Yesterday:
Globe Direct Sucks.

A month ago, I finally had enough with those stupid Globe Direct circulars winding up all over the place - occasionally on our porch, often just sitting on the sidewalk in front of our house, like one of those Pinckney Street poop bags. So I actually called the number on one of the bags to get them to stop delivering the things (which we never signed up for to begin with). The woman said it would take two to three weeks to process the order and stop delivery.

Yesterday marked the fourth week. I came home to find two of the damn things on our porch. Hey, Globe Direct, you suck.
