Fashion wars

Beth reads this snark about Boston fashion (involving Vera Bradley bags and crusty Sox caps) and wishes to have a word with the author:

...Know what? I don't even know what a Vera Bradley bag looks like. I couldn't pick it out of a lineup. And I like the crusty Sox caps (and it's not just guys who wear them, either). Frankly, the "look" of the people is just another one of the many, many reasons I never want to leave the Boston area--I never want to walk into a little Mom and Pop pizza joint, anywhere, where there aren't crusty Red Sox caps to be seen. ...

She proceeds to describe the particular styles she sees on the T and says she never gets tired of any of them.

I'm siding with blogerelli. Those Vera Bradley bags are everywhere, a puke of paisley, quilted awfulness in every square inch of the financial district.

I'm not a fan of them, but sure, they're cute for something to toss your kids' toys or the pile of stuff you're taking to church in or something. But who the HELL decided it's a good idea to carry them with a suit and jewelry and stuff? Do people in this town have any concept of different genres of clothing and how they aren't meant to be mixed?

Oh, no, of course they don't...they wear flipflops with suits or slacks and kitten heels with jeans and sweatshirts. Not to mention wearing a ton of makeup and shiny jewelry with their sweats and jeans. WTF?

Ewww...is that what those are? I see them all over the place...on the T especially. What person in their right mind thinks those things are fashionable or appealing. My sister used to have a purse/bag like that in 1973! It wasn't pretty then and it 'sho ain't pretty now. UGH!

At least they seem to be in somewhat stylish fabric now. They've chilled with the chicken print or whatever the hell it was.

WGAFF?

I just don't understand people who worry about "fashion".

Blogerelli is straight on here, sorry. Get over your Boston-centricness defensiveness and accept that people here have very little taste if they're carrying these bags. And they are...everywhere. And it's not just moms and their diapering accoutrements. It's working women who should know better than to couple that with their stylish work outfits. There are people carrying the jumbo-sized ones at the gym. They're just wrong on several levels. I've been to Manhattan, DC and Miami recently and didn't spot one Vera Crapley bag in sight!
