Shirley Leung to return to column writing
By adamg on Mon, 05/13/2019 - 11:52am
Dan Kennedy gets the scoop on that and the Globe's search for a permanent op-ed editor - who might also be put in charge of revamping the Sunday Ideas section.

oh good
More Cheerleading for the Rich!
and conservative bashing...
anyone read Yvonne Abraham's piece yesterday? Good Lord Boston Globe - not everyone in Boston is standing on a ledge in a constant state of depression. Move on for crissakes - the continual trump-depression angle is tired.
not to mention the travel section....
awesome piece on the Wauwinet out on Nantucket - you know because everyone can just plan a quick weekend away there. if you do, just be ready for the $700 (and up) price tag per night.
Boston Globe - we need equity, we're so woke, and conservatives are the worst.
Also Boston Globe - do make sure to stop in at Topper's at the Wauwinet for a quick finger sandwich before jetting back to your toney suburban enclave. Maybe strike up a convo on how BPS schools need to be less "segregated" but don't for the love of gawd every actually send your kid there - Independent School League all the way
ignore and normalize that fascist slob
at your own peril
the motto of journalism
"Comfort the afflicted, and afflict the comforted".
At the Globe these days: "Comfort the comforted, and, time permitting, if it's Pulitzer season, check in on the afflicted"
Do they really need to pay
Do they really need to pay someone to put their name on someone else's press releases?
They have been doing it for years
Ever read a piece by James Vaznis?
shirley you must be kidding?
an attempt to get back some journalistic credibility? lol
The nice thing about the Globe not firing Shirley Leung
is that you don't have to wonder whether the paper has been compromised by the current owner. There's your answer.
Can't wait to learn what my
Can't wait to learn what my and my neighbors opinions are from someone who barely lives here!
Future columns
Why not a put in a HOV lane from Milton to downtown Boston?
Why I had to buy an SUV for my young family.
John Fish should be given White Stadium for development.
After the success with GE, should Boston try to lure Uber to Boston to mark it as a capital of innovation?
My suburban house is better for the environment because it has a few trees, unlike a city apartment.
Which boot polish works the best and what colors are preferred by area developers.
Linda Henry is the greatest female executive the nation has ever seen.
I wouldn’t be the least bit
I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if any of those showed up on the front page. Shirley is the worst.
The Worst???
Umm, Shaughnessy still shows up in the Globe.
And then there's the new casino opening soon
I'm sure she'll have a column or two (or three) complaining about something about that.
"I'm really Trophy Wife Linda
on Universal Hub."
Not fair to Shirley
She's much better than that.
Leung
So she's basically back to writing the same columns Stephanie Ebbert is.....pro-woman this & that, gender pay gap, not enough women in the boardroom, etc, etc. I miss Steve Bailey.
So you didn't actually read her columns, then?
I've had my issues with her, but come on, she's not "the Woman's Columnist," any more than Howie Carr is "the Sad Old White Guy's columnist."
Huh?
This board, and most in Boston would most definitely say Carr is "the Sad Old White Guy's columnist", no? So she is "the Woman's Columnist"?
Howie isn't a Sad Old White
Howie isn't a Sad Old White Guy in good standing. I'm an officer of the Sad Old White Guys, so I know.
If Howie bothers to show up at the monthly meeting, he only stays long enough to scarf a couple of plates of food from the buffet, they screws out of there before the business meeting starts.
...and don't get me started
...and don't get me started about his membership dues!
He keeps trying to pay us in autographed books.
He doesn't seem to get the economic concept that putting more paper in circulation doesn't mean it's worth more. His pulp figments are the only scrip more inflated & worth less than the Guinean Franc or the Iranian Rial.
Leung
I see the Globe website just posted another gender article about female wine tasters “breaking the ceiling”. I’ll give credit, it wasn’t a Leung column this time.
Scoop? Kennedy ?
Give me a break.
Keep breathing
1) The word "scoop" was here, not on Dan's website or on Twitter
2) "Get the scoop" is often used differently than "scoops a story"; "get the scoop" can be, get the news.
Dan didn't say he had a scoop. He said he mentioned it because he noticed the Indeed.com job listing.
You're all so qualified. The job listing is still up - go at it!
I'm still breathing
And thanks for the lesson on word usage and definition.
Just getting around to this "scoop" now?
By Leung's own admission, this change was announced internally in early April but the "scoop" is just getting around to rest of the media now? Either thy've lost their internal Globe sources or nobody cares about Shirley's career moves.
As for a Sunday Globe Opinion page, isn't the entire paper already "opinion" from cover to cover, all week long? If Leung's demotion is related to her allowing (three times) the repulsive column that encouraged urinating in a Republican's meal, at least the Henry's are taking a step in the right direction.
