A weary North End resident filed a complaint at 11:16 p.m. yesterday about helicopters over his or her neighborhood:
Helicopters are keeping us up! What is the city doing about this. No one in the North End can even get any sleep after watching the bruins loss. What the heck? Are these for the news? Sports shows? Police? This is ridiculous long after game ended.

who rolled through North End after the Pats parade, I'd bet my lunch on it being the cops making sure everyone goes home to the burbs without getting all punchy in the city

The State Police have five of them.
You dont think an NHL playoff game would involve multiple law enforcement agencies?

The complaint was submitted at 11:16p. The game didn't end until almost 11...
Helicopter noise can be annoying, for sure, but helicopters flying 20 minutes post game isn't that unreasonable or unheard of.

so what use are news helicopters for covering it? I can see an argument for above-it-all shots at Fenway Park or Gillette Stadium, but not at the Garden. (And even then, drones or blimps or balloons would be less disruptive.)

Still a huge waste of money and resources though.

Also likely news copters surveying traffic/street closures.

Yeah, we walked home to Charlestown through the north end and could hear them the entire time but I think I realized they had stopped around 11:30? Wasn't very long at all. I honestly thought the complaint was going to be about (and was inclined to be sympathetic regarding) boorish behavior at 2am, a hallmark of the new north end, not a few helicopters after a game.

Sadly to say it is the price you pay for living in certain areas.
Not true.

General business at reasonable times is part of living here, but unless these were needed public safety items, being forced to listed to low flying copters late at night is unreasonable. Listening to news copters hovering at all traditional sleeping hours has not been part of the social compact of living in the North End. We have managed to get through decades of events without them.
Since when is 11:15 pm

Time to use drones instead of noisy helicopters.
The noise level in Boston is getting almost unbearable - helicopters are a big part of that.
