The one saving grace about an awful commute on the Framingham line

Based on John Greiner-Ferris's describes the ride on the 8:47 "express" this morning - nothing out of the ordinary, you know, the train was late, four cops and a dog made a sweep of the train in Framingham, etc., etc. But, also, no conductor ever came through his car to collect fares, so at least those people lucky enough to board without a pass got to ride for free.

For the passholders, Alanis Morrisette has a song for you. "It's like a free ride, when you've already paid."

Even pass holders can apply!

If your train is more than 30 minutes late, you can fill out the On Time Service Guarentee. It takes about 6 weeks, but I've always gotten a response eventually. Unless things have changed, you receive two tickets for the Zone your pass was good for. You can either save them to use with guests or with the accompanying letter, you can redeem them for cash at one of the main stations (ie Back Bay or South Station).

Do it right away because you have to do it within a few days of the incident.

CSX strikes again! The private freight railroad company, which owns the line, decided to do track work during the middle of rush hour... something the T has no control over.

CSX track work. CSX signal work. Bull----. Just another excuse with this line. The tracks are too hot. The tracks are too cold. The tracks are wet. Give me a break.

If CSX continues to be a problem year after year - fix it. Stop paying them. Fine them. Whatever.

But it's not just CSX. Today, for the second time in under a week we sat at South Station waiting for the train to leave. The excuse was 'paperwork'. Come on. The 5:05 left at 5:29. So, even though 2/3 of the passengers left, at the crew's suggestion and got on the 5:30 Worcester local, it was still packed after picking up twice the usual passengers at Back Bay and Yawkey.

And the morning train (8:24 inbound from West Newton) has been late - no exaggeration - more than 9 out of 10 trips this year.
