Charlie Can't Get On That Train

My neighbor just rang my doorbell begging for candy. I looked across the street and asked his mother why the light was out at their house. She tells me her husband is stuck at South Station and can't get home to dish out their own sugary goodness. The Greenbush line has taken cars away from the Franklin Line and that last train was so full that he couldn't even get on. On Halloween the T is as scary as ever.

Providence trains have been short all week, and so crowded in the afternoon that the conductors can't even collect fares.

Anyone know how many riders Greenbush is getting?

According to the Globe this morning "Only 893 people took the five morning rush hour trains into Boston, far below the estimated 4,300 daily commuters expected to use the new service within its first three to five years."

I'm not sure you can lay all blame on Greenbush. The Providence line has been chronically late and short of cars for weeks. Though I admit, the first afternoon of Greenbush service was particularly bad for outbound trains. It certainly makes me wonder what the optimal capacity for South Station is, and how close we are to hitting it.
