Just what he needed: A couple of drunken Irishmen in a bar yelling at him about Jews in Israel

Samuel Scott reads about an upswing in anti-Semitism in Great Britain, which reminds him of a recent incident in a Boston pub.

What'd you expect from a couple of drunk yoks in a bar? It ain't exactly the roundtable at the Algonquin. Nevertheless, we must learn to speak up when morons make statements like this so that history doesn't repeat itself. Note how it wasn't, say, two brain surgeons at Mass. General. Its always the downtrodden who spew hate as they look for a scapegoat.

Why Irishmen arrive in Boston and act like walking stereotypes is beyond me. One thing I really dislike about some Irishmen who elbow their way into Boston bars is their love of "taking the piss" out of strangers. I prefer straight-talking people, and having to be on my guard not to fall into some stranger's conversational trap is a real drag. Yes, it's their culture, but Boston is not actually Ireland West, and hasn't been for some time.

When I first got to Boston and I heard my American housemates describe "the Irish" I wondered if I hadn't walked into a time warp. But then I walked into Porter Belly's and I knew I was in a time warp. Drinking, singing, dancing, lying their heads off to girls, starting fights... It could have been 18 freaking 47 and it could have been my own great-great-grandfather buying me a drink and claiming to be at Harvard Law.

I think the blogger did and said the best things possible under the circumstances. Mr O'Loudmouth isn't going to start a pogrom, but he will probably try to start some more fights for fun. These guys are best given a sharp remark and then ignored.

The above-mentioned quote from your post says it quite well, Seraph. Mr. O'Loudmouth certainly isn't going to start a pogrom, because he clearly doesn't have that capacity. However, Mr. O'Loudmouth is exploited by the wealthier people who do start pograms as a tool for carrying them out.
