Seven-story residential building proposed on Tremont Street across from Mission Church campus
A pair of Mission Hill developers want to replace a three-story building on Tremont Street at St. Alphonsus Street with a seven-story, 139-unit apartment building with a garage with 44 spaces set aside for Mission Church and ground-floor space for a cafe.
In a letter of intent filed with the BPDA this week, Jason and Melanie Savage of Savage Real Estate promise a building at 1558 Tremont St. with a design that will "respond to and enhance the surrounding area."
The Savages bought the property from the Redemptorist Fathers for $3.7 million in 2016. The order runs Mission Church, more formally known as the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

Wow
$3.7 million for a tear down house on a small lot.
planned development at 1558 Tremont Street
That's the site of the former O'Connor Funeral Home, which went out of business well over a decade ago. I walk by that site at least once a week--my only surprise is that it took so long for a development proposal to emerge...
Not a lot of detail yet. It
Not a lot of detail yet. It must be more than just that one parcel at 1558 Tremont. Could it be the entire block on Tremont between Saint Alphonsus and Pontiac?
Yeah
I was wondering about that too. 139 units over 7 floors is 19+ units/floor. Seemed like far too many for that plot only. Maybe it includes the one story building right next to it on St Alphonsus? Last thing I remember that one story building was being used for was MFA storage.
Enhance The Neighborhood??
This developer has zero interest in enhancing this neighborhood which is obvious by the condition of the current building. Savage Real Estate has let this property fall into a state of disrepair which is simply a slap in the face to the neighborhood.
The property has been open to the elements for six years, loaded with animals and rodents, overgrown with weeds and covered with graffiti at times. Yeah that really sounds like they want to respond to the surrounding area.
