Man threatened with knife for talking too loudly on the Orange Line, police say

Transit Police have released photos of a guy they say reacted to another man talking too loudly on the Orange Line by pulling out a knife and demanding he shut up, around 7:30 p.m. on March 25.

The victim, in fear, fled off the train to escape from the incident.

Would the MBTA police wait three weeks after the incident to report it and ask for the public’s help, or is this about how these things go?

And when that doesn't work, they post photos (note: Unlike the MTA in New York, the MBTA takes pretty good care of its camera systems, if nothing else) to see if anybody might want to drop a tip.

Not all riders who refuse to wear mask are maniacs but all the maniacs who commit crimes on the T refuse to put on masks. Why are the Transit Police not allowed to issue mask citations or remove unruly passengers who refuse to wear masks?

Homeless and/or mentally ill

Does this include the addicted and those with mental health issues that populate the T in large numbers? As a daily T rider throughout the entire pandemic, there is hardly a time I ever saw an addicted and/or (visibly) mentally ill person wearing a mask. I'm not sure how this could be enforced. There is a rule against smoking in stations too, but many of this population do it anyway and even that is not enforced.

Yet I sympathize with the person’s annoyance.

If I want to hear lots of people yammering, watch kids swing from poles in rhythm to video games and enjoy all the one sided flummoxed folks flicking their foulness into tiny plastic boxes then I’ll join the circus.

Just riding the T is stressful alone. Why are so many committed to making it worse for everyone else?

…. driving or riding in a car. I often enjoy it.

Noise from people’s phones, the screech of the Green Line and announcements set at high volumes can make it less enjoyable.

I have fantasized about murdering loudmouths but, yes, it’s wrong. And I wouldn’t likely get away with it.
