It appears that objectivity and truthfulness in news reporting are now fiction. In Mike Barnicle's case, it's likely plagiarized fiction.

Barnicle is very close to "barnacle".

Barnacles are somewhat parasitic, most tenacious, and classified as fouling organisms.
