Man charged with motor-vehicle homicide for Roslindale crash that killed homeowner, seriously injured his friend

A Roxbury man was arraigned today on charges he rammed into a car on Washington Street in Roslindale while making a turn, causing that vehicle to slam into two men enjoying a nice spring day, killing one of them and seriously injuring the other, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office, charges, adding the man then ran from the scene.

Juan Medina, 20, was charged with motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation and leaving the scene of personal injury or death, according to the DA's office, which says he was also cited for failing to yield at an intersection, which is a civil, rather than a criminal, offense.

West Roxbury Municipal Court Judge Michael Bolden released Medina on personal recognizance, on the condition he not drive and not contact the survivor or the two victims' families, the DA's office says.

The DA's office provided this account:

Assistant District Attorney Colleen O’Neill said that on March 26 at about 5:01 p.m. Medina, driving southbound on Washington Street in Roslindale in a white Honda CRV, turned into the northbound lane, causing a gray Honda Accord to strike a nearby minivan and then a house located at 3968 Washington Street.

Two men were on or near the porch of the house when it was struck. One of the men, Edigio D’Antuony, 60, was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead. The other man, 62, sustained serious injuries.

Video secured by Boston police shows Medina step out of his vehicle after the crash, talk on a cell phone, then leave the scene after about eight minutes without speaking to police or identifying himself. Investigators determined the address of the Honda CRV through surveillance video and witness statements.

The driver of the Accord remained on the scene and has not been charged.

Innocent, etc.

He should rot in prison.

I feel for the driver of the Honda Accord who was forced into this deadly crash by Medina's actions.

I sat on a jury a few years ago, in Malden District Court. A man was on trial for having driven a van that struck and killed some poor woman. The charge was some type of homicide, and I thought it was odd that the jury had only 6 people. I asked the prosecutor about this after the verdict, and he said that it was a 6-person panel because the charge was a misdemeanor!

So, is 'motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation' a misdemeanor or felony? Note that the 20-year-old accusee was released on personal recog.

Surely someone who fled the scene after killing someone will listen to the orders to not drive and show up for the next court date. What evidence do we have that he’s dangerous or untrustworthy? /s

When you are in a car you are important and have important places to go.

This was clearly the fault of the car!!! Not to mention the two men blocking it with their porch.

Impound that car! Take away it’s spark plug!! Ticket the porch.

Then call the important driver an Uber and apologize for the disruption to his important day.

No bail for any of them, right?

Of course, I have read the purpose of bail in Massachusetts.

Somehow killing people with a car doesn't get evaluated in the same way as shooting at people with guns.

That needs to change given that many of the people who end up killing others with cars while driving in very dangerous ways often have a record of ignoring sanctions on their driving.

Like that woman with a suspended license and multiple DUIs who ran over the teen in a crosswalk, among others.

But you do realize that opening fire with a firearm is slightly different than not obeying marked lines on a roadway, right?

It does amaze me how people love to work on the idea that an arrest is the same as a conviction.

“ But you do realize that opening fire with a firearm is slightly different than not obeying marked lines on a roadway, right? “

Lol!
Because people driving cars are important people. That’s the only difference.
Thank you for demonstrating to a t what motor chauvinism is. Couldn’t ask for a better example.

Motor vehicles serve numerous purposes, and let’s be abundantly clear of your hypocrisy in that motor vehicles are the primary last mile logistical tool for the food and other things you consume.

Firearms are deadly weapons. That’s their purpose.

But tell us that you blindly hate cars without saying you blindly hate cars.

There should be AUTOMATIC dangerousness hearings.

Just because they have a history of using a car to endanger and kill people should not make having a PRIOR RECORD of endangering and killing people any different from having a prior record of using guns in reckless ways.

If the guy (theoretically, as I don’t have the facts) doesn’t have a single ticket on his record, we should assume he does these things all the time?

I mean, you keep making comments the first part I 100% agree with, then you add the oddest second part. There’s no doubt that if there’s a trend, the accused might be considered dangerous. That would be the case in all sorts of cases.

After going by here often to get to Forest Hills, I was going to ask you if you had heard anything about an update on this.
This guy should be in prison for a long time.
