Pride is back

Adrianna Boulin, president of Boston Pride of the People, limbos below the opening ribbon of Pride parade

Frank Solensky watched yesterday as Adrianna Boulin, president of Boston Pride of the People, limbos below the opening ribbon of the Pride parade on Boylston Street in the Back Bay, as US Sen. Ed Markey, Gov. Maura Healey and others watched.

Thousands marched in Boston's first Pride parade since 2019. The pandemic initially forced cancellation of the annual June event, but then the earlier organizing committee dissolved rather than deal with issues of Black and transgender participation.

State Street's new headquarters, where the Government Center garage used to be, was colored in for the occasion, as Adam Castiglioni noticed:

I think they did a great job. I really enjoyed the parade. It was nice to see fun groups like furries!

The characterization that they resigned rather than attempt to fix what was wrong is inaccurate. They were forced to walk the plank and they did so.

The crowd was incredible at the Boston Common for the end of the parade. More rainbows, rainbow colored clothing and rainbow umbrellas than I've ever seen. Even the sudden torrential downpour at the end didn't dampen anyone's spirits. I'd say it was a successful return.
