Forest Hills awoke today to the sound of a helicopter inching its way up Hyde Park Avenue, and as one 311 reporter complained. "looking into resident back yards."
In fact, the helicopter is unconcerned with whatever people are storing in their backyards. It and its crew were hired by Amtrak to survey the poles that support the power lines for trains in the Northeast Corridor.
It's been slowly moving north from Rhode Island since September, resulting in a spate of complaints and queries as it entered Boston, starting in Readville on Oct. 23 and reaching the Blakemore Street Bridge in Roslindale on Tuesday and now Forest Hills.
Video as it seems to hover in line at the Dunkin' Donuts on Hyde Park Avenue at Walk Hill Street.

This first thought if I saw that when waking up would be ... Oh mu God!! That pilot was able to control a landing before it was about to crash!!" Then call the Fire Dept. Right away. They definitely should have posted hard copy notices around the area ahead of time.

I bet they did some analysis and determined that a two-person crew and a truck, and a camera drone or two is neither as effective nor cost-effective.
Do I win the bet?

Because there are no powerful people with money here. I'd like to see how this would fly (no pun intended) in the back yards of Moss Hill homes.

Is there no other way to do this alleged work for this alleged reason? Prove the transparency to the public that we always hear.....show us the legal contract and proposal that was done to let this happen? This is ALL wrong all over, under, sideways and around.

I'm saying there should have been an abutters notice. Maybe I'm wrong because I have a fear of flying and aircraft crashes.

but I don't think it works like that. Amtrak is a federal agency and airspace is federally regulated and I don't think the feds really care that your house is next to their tracks (it's actually not *their* tracks in this area but that's a whole other story that Adam has covered before...)

What reason would they have to snoop on their neighbors if there's a helicopter doing it?
