so the human chain doesn't need to cross the parade route.

Also, the parade, which starts at noon in Davis Square, may have largely passed Porter Square by 1 pm when the chain starts.

I would volunteer for the chain if I hadn't already signed up to volunteer for the parade.

Not parade-related, but they have to cross Somerville Ave in the heart of Porter Square, and, I assume, the entrance to the Star Market parking lot from Mass Ave. I hope the drivers are feeling cooperative that day.

They will do it, you wait and see.

I lived in Porter Sq when this place opened. I did not believe it would last when other bookstores (B&N, Borders) were closing doors (this was 2004).

Its grown to an amazing store that has a huge very supportive customer base. Not surprised they are moving, the place was always so busy.

But knowing their customer base, people will show up in droves to help because people love this store.

How great would it be if the bookwalkers were accompanied by rousing music from the Honk Parade? These are the things that make life great!

Community needs a constant infusion of energy to be strong. This is a beautiful example of putting energy into a community by creating an opportunity for like minded folks to join together in a cooperative activity that supports a local business which in turn supports the local community.

Doubt of a store that was part of a chain would do this. It takes people invested in their neighborhood and community. Invested with the subtlties and nuances of connection that a national empire of a retail operations cannot produce.
