The way the news is reported in Boston is concerning.... When the story of the missing teen in Aruba, Natalee Holloway, was first reported, we saw images of the suspects, three black men who worked as security guards on the island. These suspects were never arrested. However those men are no longer suspects, and , one Caucasian Dutchman and two from Surinam. And yet, the only place I saw their faces was on "A Current Affair," hardly a place one would go for news...
of the state trooper, Michael Bochicchio, who shot his wife, her lawyer, and himself outside of the courthouse was splashed all over the news, but we never saw them.
But we saw plenty of images of accused rapist on assorted local newstations and papers. For today's biggest story, the attempted robbery of an armored car in Malden which led to students at Beebe Elementary being "placed in a state of lockdown" while police searched for the suspects, the local newstations even broke out the helicopter-cams to sweep the area, but despite the arrest of one of the suspects, we never got a glimpse of them (described as "three white men and are believed to be armed with AK-47's").
I'm aware that talk of race makes folks uncomfy. And I don't want to contribute to the divisiveness that already exists in this town. Personally, until someone has been convicted of a crime, I don't believe their image should be shown in the media in connection to it. But if the media insists on doing so, it should at least be balanced. The picture they're painting of the hub and its neighbors simply isn't accurate, and solely feeds stereotypes that set us apart.

small correction

Just a small factual correction, not really addressing your main point:
The armored car robbery happened on Hanover Street in the North End. I happened to see its aftermath on that street about a half hour later. The suspects apparently fled to Malden, so that's where the siege and lockdown happened.
I don't think anyone got a photo of the robbers -- if there was one, I'm sure it would be splashed across every TV station and newspaper in the city. (Would you take a photo of three men with AK-47s fleeing a stickup?)
as stated in the post, one

Thanks for the edit.
As stated in the post, one of the three suspects in the armored car robbery was taken into custody. I'd imagine he was disarmed at that point.
