Brighton IHOP + stabbing....never would have figured it'd be employee-on-employee...then, I never would have thought it'd be 5 pm. At least it was on a Saturday.
I'd have figured this to be a Saturday early morning drunk-on-drunk stabbing over who got to a table first or something.
I guess you could now say that it's *safer* at the Brighton IHOP in the post-club hours than during the afternoon...wierd.
After speaking to numerous witnesses on scene, officers learned that the suspect who off-duty, came to the restaurant around 5:00pm and demanded that victim 1 come outside and speak to him. When victim 1 refused to go outside the suspect entered the restaurant and went to the kitchen area where he armed himself with a knife and advanced toward victim 1 in a confrontational manner. Another employee of the restaurant, victim 2, observing the developments, attempted to intervene and received a stab wound to the arm. After the suspect slashed victim 2's arm, he continued and stabbed victim 1 in the abdomen. After the suspect assaulted victim 1, another employee was able to jump on his back and disarm him at which point he fled the scene.
Victelio Mandoza, 44, of Brighton was arrested and charged with two counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, and two counts of Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon. Two victims treated at Brigham and Women's for non-life-threatening injuries.
Mandoza was ordered held in lieu of $50,000 cash bail in Brighton District Court today, the Suffolk County DA's office reports, adding:
According to witnesses, Mandoza was off-duty when he went to the restaurant to speak with one of the employees, a 35-year-old man who is also his roommate. He walked into the kitchen to the grill area where the man was working and allegedly said to him, "I want to talk to you - come out."
When the victim responded that he was working and told the defendant to leave, Mandoza reportedly became enraged, grabbed an eight-inch carving knife from a nearby counter, and approached the victim in a threatening manner. A second employee, who also lives with the two men in a shared apartment, attempted to intervene in the confrontation.
Mandoza allegedly lunged toward that man, who dodged and was sliced on the right arm, narrowly escaping a stab wound to his chest area.
After slashing that victim, Mandoza charged at his intended target, plunging the knife into his abdomen. A third employee jumped on the defendant's back and wrestled the weapon from his hands.
After being disarmed, Mandoza fled the restaurant.
A Boston Police officer en route to the scene saw a man matching the suspect's description running on Parsons Street about a block away from the restaurant. The officer pulled over, exited his cruiser, and approached the man, who was breathing heavily and was covered with blood on his hands and clothing.
